Iowa Cubs News Release
TOLEDO, OH - The Iowa Cubs (26-33) surrendered 14 runs on 13 hits to the Toledo Mud Hens (30-28), losing the series finale at Fifth Third Field by a score of 14-9.
Nelson Maldonado drove in Darius Hill with an RBI double in the top of the first to give Iowa an early 1-0 lead. The game stayed a 1-0 until the third, when Toledo used a two-run home run from Josh Lester and a sacrifice fly to take a 3-1 lead.
Iowa scored a run in each of the next three innings highlighted by a home run from Narciso Crook, but it wasn't enough to get on top as the Mud Hens scored four in the bottom of the fourth with two, two-run blasts from Trayce Thompson and Brady Policelli.
Up 7-4, Toledo got a sacrifice fly and yet another two-run shot from Ryan Kreidler to grow their lead to 10-4. Levi Jordan notched his third hit of the game in the eighth inning for an RBI single to fight back and make it a 10-5 game, but the Mud Hens extended their lead with four more runs in the eighth with an RBI single and a bases clearing double from Zack Short, making it a 14-5 game.
The I-Cubs didn't go away easily, putting up a four-spot of their own in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as they dropped the series finale by a final score of 14-9.
