Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - Playing in the series finale on Sunday afternoon from Sahlen Field, the Buffalo Bisons fell to the Worcester Red Sox 4-3 after winning the previous two contests.
Despite the loss today, the Bisons held the WooSox to just five combined runs over the course of the final three games of the series.
It was a bullpen day for both sides, one that saw each team use six different pitchers to get to 27 outs. Joe Biagini got things started for the Herd and sat down all four batters he faced, before Shaun Anderson threw 2.1 innings giving up a run off an RBI single by Jarren Duran in the third.
The Bisons stranded 12 runners on the day, including stranding the bases loaded twice, but were able to score two runs off wild pitches. Chavez Young did so in the second, and Samad Taylor did so in the eighth, the latter of which broke a 1-1 tie.
Eric Yardley and Derek Holland each had a clean inning, as did Bowden Francis in the seventh, but Francis would wind up allowing a two-run homer to Jeter Downs and a solo shot by Duran in the eighth which gave Worcester a 4-2 lead.
The Bisons cut the lead to one in the bottom of the ninth when Zack Collins doubled home Taylor, but stranded the tying run at third as Kaleb Ort finished things off with a six-out save.
The WooSox pitching staff combined to strikeout 14 Bison batters, with the starter Thomas Pannone fanning four over two innings, and Brian Keller punching out three over his two innings of work.
The Bisons are off tomorrow but will begin a six-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs from Allentown, PA beginning on Tuesday night. The series opener is set for 7:05 p.m.
