Friday, February 21 Toledo 3 @ Wheeling 1

For the second consecutive game the Nailers scored first to take a 1-0 lead, but for the second consecutive game the Nailers lost by a 3-1 score. Dmitri Doulebenets gave the Nailers the lead over the Storm with a power play goal at 7:09 of the first period. Matt Smith picked up the only assist on the goal. Toledo tied the game 1-1 at 14:36 of the opening period. Matt Ellis scored the Storm's goal with Wes Mason and Timo Helbling assisting. Helbling gave Toledo a 2-1 lead at 6:03 of the second period with an even strength goal from Ellis and Paul Ballantyne. The Storm ended the scoring by taking a 3-1 lead at 19:32 of the second period. The goal was a shorthanded goal by Tim Verbeek with Ellis assisting. Toledo outshot Wheeling 50-23 in the game and Nailers goalie Tyler MacKay made 47 saves on the 50 shots he faced. The loss was the third straight for the Nailers and the Storm won their third straight.

Saturday, February 22 Lexington 2 @ Wheeling 3

The Nailers closed out their week with a home game against the Lexington Men-O-War. The Nailers are chasing Lexington for a playoff spot in the Northwest Division and this was the first of four remaining head-to-head meetings against the Men-O-War for the Nailers before the regular season ends. For the third straight game the Nailers scored first and took a 2-0 lead over Lexington. Mark Major scored the Nailers first goal of the game at 4:27 of the opening period. Steve Crampton and Arpad Mihaly assisted on the goal. The Nailers took a 2-0 lead on a Mihaly power play goal at 12:23 of the first period. J.P. Soucy and Major assisted on the goal. Before the first period ended the Men-O-War scored to cut the Nailers lead to 2-1. Kevin Knopp scored the Lexington goal from Alex Mathieu and Ryan Fultz at 18:37. The Nailers held their 2-1 lead through the second period as neither team was able to score. Lexington tied the game 2-2 at 14:22 of the third period on a Ben Storey goal from Van Burgess and Mark Smith. The Nailers Matt Smith broke the tie and gave the Nailers a 3-2 lead at 18:58 of the final period. Mihaly picked up his third point of the game with an assist on the Smith goal. Tyler MacKay made 46 saves on 48 shots in the win.

PREVIEW OF UPCOMING NAILERS GAMES February 24-March 2

Tuesday, February 25 Wheeling @ Peoria 8:00p.m.

The Nailers travel to Peoria for the final regular season meeting against the Rivermen for the season. The Nailers are 3-5-0 against the Rivermen this season, including 1-2-0 in Peoria.

Friday, February 28 Dayton @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.

The Nailers host the Dayton Bombers at 7:30p.m. at the Wheeling Civic Center. The Nailers are vying for a playoff spot with the Bombers and are 3-3-1 against Dayton this season. This game is the final regular season matchup between these two teams for the season. The first 2,000 fans will receive a Nailers Team Poster courtesy of WTOV-9, Fibernet and Taylor Made Printing.

Saturday, March 1 Wheeling @ Johnstown 7:30p.m.

Wheeling travels to Johnstown for the first of two straight road games on the weekend. The Nailers are 4-2-0 against the Chiefs this season.

Sunday, March 2 Wheeling @ Toledo 3:00p.m.

The Nailers close out the week with a road game in Toledo against the Storm. Game time is 3:00p.m. from Toledo. The Nailers are 1-6-0 against Toledo this season.

Player of the Week

The Nailers Player of the Week is Arpad Mihaly. Mihaly had three points in a 3-2 win over Lexington. He scored one goal and assisted on two others. He also played even in two games last week.

Goaltender of the Week

The Nailers Goalie of the Week is Tyler MacKay. MacKay went 1-1-0 during the week. His save percentage was .949 and his goals against average was 2.50. He made 93 saves on 98 shots and gave up five goals in two games played.
