THE WEEK AHEAD
Thursday, February 27th vs. South Carolina Carolina Coliseum 7pm
This is the last time the Inferno face the South Carolina Stingrays in the regular season. The Inferno is 5-2-0 against the Stingrays this season and 10-4-1 all-time.
Friday, February 28th @ Greensboro Greensboro Coliseum Comp. 7:30pm
This is the fourth and last time the Inferno and Generals play each other. The Inferno won their first game against Greensboro last week and have a 1-3-2 all-time record against the Generals.
Saturday, March 1st vs. Columbus Carolina Coliseum 7pm
The Inferno is 4-2-0 this season against the Cottonmouths. This is the seventh out of eight games these two teams have played this year. Columbus is tied for sixth place with 44 points
LAST WEEK
Tuesday, February 18th COLUMBIA 4 Charlotte 1 @ Charlotte
Robin Carruthers scored a goal and added an assist as the Columbia Inferno defeated the Charlotte Checkers, 4-1. Carruthers assisted on a tally by Rejean Stringer with 8:16 left in the first period and notched his 14th goal of the season with 2:34 remaining in the game to close the scoring. Denis Marytnyuk and Derek Crimin each scored a goal and Josh Blackburn stopped 20 shots for Columbia, which has won eight of its last 11 games.
Thursday, February 20th COLUMBIA 4 Augusta 3 @ Augusta
Barrie Moore scored in the third period to lead the Columbia Inferno past the Augusta Lynx, 4-3. Moore, on assists from Chris St. Croix and Rejean Stringer, broke a 3-3 deadlock at 8:18 of the final period with his 19th goal of the season. Eric Labelle scored a goal and added an assist and Patrick Couture stopped 24 shots for Columbia, which has won nine of its last 11 games
Friday, February 21st COLUMBIA 5 Charlotte 0 @ Columbia
Josh Blackburn, with a strong performance in goal, recorded his first shutout of the season as the Inferno stopped the Checkers 5-0. Matt Ulwelling scored first for the Inferno at 6:11 with passes from Shawn Wansborough and Clint Way. At 15:54 Sean Owens scored his fifth goal to give the Inferno a 2-0 lead. Wansborough and newcomer Trevor Demmans had the assists. Chris Pittman, just assigned back to the Inferno from the Hartford Wolf Pack, scored his 18th goal of the season at 4:03 of the second period with Tim Smith and Wansborough on the assists. Demmans recorded his first goal as an Inferno player at 7:02 as Barrie Moore and Clint Way set him up. Wansborough scored the last goal for the Inferno at 13:32 of the third period. Josh Blackburn stopped 34 shots for his shutout.
Saturday, February 22nd COLUMBIA 7 Greensboro 4 @ Columbia
Tim Smith scored first for the Inferno at 9:19 of the first period with Shawn Wansborough and Trevor Demmans on the assists. Matt Ulwelling scored his first shorthanded goal of the season at 10:36 with help from Chris St. Croix and Barrie Moore. Greensboro scored two goals in the last five minutes to tie the game at two. The Inferno exploded in the second period with three goals. Barrie Moore scored backhanded with Demmans and Rejean Stringer setting him up for his 20th goal of the season at 6:28. Two minutes later, Chris Pittman scored off of a Robin Carruthers pass. Stringer scored at 10:10 to give the Inferno a 5-3 lead at the end of the second period. Corey Hessler and Robin Carruthers had the assists. Eric Labelle scored 50 seconds into the third period off of a rebound to give the Inferno a 6-3 lead. Greensboro tried to come back by scoring two goals but it wasn't enough. Tim Smith added the last goal as the Inferno win for the first time in franchise history against the Generals. Patrick Couture stopped 26 of 30 shots for the Inferno.
