
Men O\' War Finish Week 2-1-0 to Tie Cyclones for Third in Division

Lexington, KY-The Men O' War finished the weekend tied with the Cincinnati Cyclones for third in the Northwest Division. The Men caught the âClones by matching their longest winning streak of the season. Following a win last Sunday in Dayton, the Men downed the Bombers again on Tuesday 4-2. The Men extended their win streak with a 3-2 overtime win over the Reading Royals on Friday. The three consecutive wins matched the longest MOW win streak of the season.
Tuesday, February 18th âDayton 2 at Lexington 4
The Men O' War finished their season series with the Dayton Bombers with a 4-2 win on Tuesday night. The win gives the MOW an 8-2-0 advantage in the season series. The MOW jumped on the Bombers early and never let go. Brett Draney and Ben Storey scored first period even strength goals to stake the MOW to a 2-0 lead that they would never give up. Dan Murphy continued his spectacular play in net stopping 32 of 34 shots. Van Burgess and Fraser Clair also scored for the MOW.
Friday, February 21st-Reading 2 at Lexington 3 OT After the MOW allowed the tying goal with less than a minute left in the third, Joe Vandermeer scored the game-winning goal 50 seconds into OT to give the Men their first OT win of the season. Van Burgess added a goal and an assist to cap off his 500th professional game. Ben Storey scored the other MOW goal for his 11th tally of the season. The game featured only one penalty. Mark Smith got a minor for hooking in the first period for the only infraction of the game.
Saturday, February 22nd âLexington 2 at Wheeling 3
The Men O' War journeyed to Wheeling on Saturday looking to establish a new season high for consecutive wins, but the Nailers spoiled the party with a late third period goal. Matt Smith scored with 1:02 remaining in the third to give the Nailers a 3-2 win. The goal was Smith's fifth of the season and first game winning goal.
Smith's goal came after Ben Storey scored with 5:38 left in the third to tie the game at two. Kevin Knopp scored the other MOW goal.
UPCOMING GAMES ......
The Men O' War journey to Richmond this week for a Wednesday match-up with the Richmond Renegades. The MOW lost 3-2 in overtime to the âGades on October 27th in the teams' only previous meeting of the year. On Thursday, the Men head to Florence, SC for their only game in a Southern Conference Arena. The Pride head in to the week in fourth in the ECHL's Southeast Division with a 31-21-5 record. The Men hold a 2-1 record vs. the Southern Conference this year. The MOW have beaten Arkansas and Augusta and have lost to the Greenville Grrrowl. Games against Arkansas on March 7th and 9th at Rupp Arena are the last games of the season vs. Southern Conference foes.
MOW Tracks
At least one MOW defenseman has scored a goal in four consecutive games. Ben Storey scored a goal in every game this week. Joe Vandermeer scored the OT winner vs. Reading. Kevin Knopp scored vs. Wheeling...Van Burgess played his 500th professional game on Friday vs. Reading. Van recorded a goal and an assist in the game...MOW broadcaster Josh Fisher will return to the play-by-play booth on Wednesday in Richmond after missing five games to have his appendix and gallbladder removed.
