Wheeling Nailers News Release

Wheeling, WV- The Wheeling Nailers blasted away for 37 shots on Wings rookie Riley Gill but ended up dropping a frustrating defeat to Kalamazoo 2-1 Saturday night at WesBanco Arena. The lone goal for the Nailers was Jordan Fox's 18th of the season and Jordan Morrison and Jon D'Aversa

Kalamazoo goalie Riley Gill got the win in his first professional game with a dazzling performance including several spectacular stops in a 36 save evening.

Wheeling went 1-for-7 on the power play and killed off all 4 Kalamazoo power play opportunities. The Nailers outshot the Wings 37-24.

Wheeling drops to 30-31-6, only one game under .500 to place them 9th in the American Conference, only points back from the Reading Royals 8th place spot.

The Nailers seemed to have the better of the Wings for much of the game but were simply unable to solve Gill.

The Nailers took the initial advantage 8:24 into the second period. Jordan Morrison flipped the puck forward to Jordan Fox on a fine headman feed and Fox raced up the right wing and roofed his shot into the net for the 1-0 lead.

Nearly 2:00 later, the Wings answered with a shorthanded and unassisted goal by their veteran captain Sam Ftorek when he stole the puck in the neutral zone and shoveled a backhander past Berkhoel's left skate.

The Wings wasted no time in the third in taking the lead. Mathieu Curadeau flipped one in over a scrambling Berkhoel to take a 2-1 lead only :38 into the final frame.

It was the 4th game in a row between the two teams. They wrap up the 5 game series Friday March 26th at WesBanco arena. The Nailers are 3-4-1 against the Wings this season.

The Nailers hit the ice Sunday afternoon when the Toledo Walleye come to town. It is Pups and Pucks Night as well as Sunday Family Fun Day featuring a post game skate with the Nailers players. Be sure to bring your skates and gloves...don't forget your camera!

he Wings scored a pair of goals in the final 6 minutes to pull away from the Wheeling Nailers in a 5-2 final Friday night at Wings Stadium.
