Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Bakersfield, CA - In a Friday night matchup the Victoria Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors met in the first of a two-game set at the Rabobank Arena. Victoria's Glenn Fisher got the start in net while Bakersfield countered with Timo Pielmeier.

The Salmon Kings opened the scoring 2:54 after puck drop when Brandon Roach released a shot from the left point that was stopped by the right pad of Pielmeier. The rebound was kicked out to an open Randall Gelech who buried the puck into the open net. For Gelech it was his 21st goal of the season. Bakersfield tied the game at the 6:20 mark on Andrew Ianiero's 14th goal of the campaign. Stephane Goulet broke into the offensive zone on a breakaway and was stopped by the right pad of Fisher with a trailing Ianiero netting the rebound past a sprawled Victoria goaltender. The Salmon Kings took a 2-1 lead at 15:36 when Chad Painchaud one-timed a Gelech pass from the top of the left faceoff circle that beat Pielmeier glove side. The goal was Painchaud's 29th of the year. The visiting team took their 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.

Victoria took a two-goal advantage at 4:23 of the middle frame. Taylor Ellington took a shot from the high slot that was blocked by a Condors' defender with the puck coming back to the Salmon Kings' defenseman who fired his third goal of the season past an out-of-position Pielmeier. The Salmon Kings added a fourth goal at the 15:11 mark on Wes Goldie's team-leading 41st goal of the campaign. Goldie skated into the offensive zone down the left wing, cut into the slot around two Bakersfield defenders and snapped a wrist shot through the pads of the Condors' netminder. The Salmon Kings skated into the intermission with a 4-1 lead.

Scott Howes added a fifth goal for the Salmon Kings at the 3:51 mark of the third period. The Victoria forward skated into the slot, faked a shot and patiently out-waited an outstretched Pielmeier to slide the puck around the goaltender into the open net. Howes' 12th goal of the year rounded out the scoring for the game. Salmon Kings 5 Condors 1

Victoria and Bakersfield both went 0/3=0.0% on the power play. The Salmon Kings outshot the Condors 33-32.

The Salmon Kings wrap up their two-game set against the Condors tomorrow night before heading to Idaho for a three-game series versus the Steelheads on March 24th, March 26th, and March 27th.
