Fredricks Scores First Professional Goal in 5-3 Loss to Everblades

Estero, FL - The South Carolina Stingrays (38-18-6-6) fell to the Florida Everblades (35-22-4-5) 5-3 in front of 6,592 at Germain Arena Saturday evening. Stingrays defenseman Jason Fredricks scored his first professional goal in the loss.

After a scoreless first period, six goals highlighted the second frame. The Everblades lit the lamp first on the power play off a tally from forward Shea Guthrie beating Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly low blocker-side. Defensemen Dominic Osman and A.J. Thelen registered assists. Stingrays forward Jake Hauswirth tied the game 20 seconds later from forwards Scott Bartlett and Trevor Bruess beating Everblades goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu over the right shoulder. The Stingrays grabbed the lead on a goal from forward Matt Scherer at 14:35 from forward Spencer Carbery and defenseman Johann Kroll.

The Everblades made it 2-2 at 16:03 as center Ross Carlson buried his 22 goal of the season under the left pad of Connelly from defenseman Benn Olson and rookie Brandon Buck. Everblades forward Colin Nicholson reclaimed the lead for Florida at 18:20 with an unassisted marker. Late in the period, the Stingrays capitalized on the power play with a tally from Fredricks at 19:36. Forwards Gregg Johnson and Trent Campbell potted assists.

Florida found the twine twice in the third period to skate away with a 5-3 victory. Carlson scored his second of the night at 17:34 to break the tie from defenseman Ernie Hartlieb and forward Milan Gajic. Florida's Buck iced the game at 19:17 from Hartlieb and Gajic. Connelly suffered the loss stopping 28 of 33 Everblades shots. Beckford-Tseu earned his 17 win of the season kicking away 17 of 20 Stingrays chances. The Everblades finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play while the Stingrays went 1-for-4.
