Reign Drops Steelheads, 2-1

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 2-1, on Saturday night in front of 8,395 fans on Military Appreciation Night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign have won the last four games against the Steelheads.

The first period yielded no goals for either club but Reign defenseman Mike Egener and Idaho defenseman Aaron Dawson dropped the gloves at 14:28.

The Reign opened the scoring at 6:18 in the second period when right wing Jon Rheault received the puck from defenseman Andrew Martens, then spun around and passed it to forward Michael Pelech who then put it past Idaho net minder Rejean Beauchemin.

Idaho answered back with a power play goal at 8:55 to tie the game up at 1-1. Defenseman Dustin Friesen shot the puck over Ontario net minder Mike Zacharias' glove. Center Tyler Spurgeon and left wing Evan Barlow assisted on the play.

At 11:42 in the second, right wing Geoff Walker scored a power play goal and gave the Reign a 2-1 lead when he tipped the puck up and over Beauchemin's stick. Geoff Walker was posted in front of the net and received a feed from defenseman David Walker. Forward Greg Hogeboom also assisted on the goal.

In the third period, the Reign and Steelheads went back and forth trying to put the puck past the goaltenders but in the end Mike Zacharias stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced to give the Reign the win with a final score of Reign 2, Steelheads 1.
