Nailers end K-Wings' streak

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo Wings nine-game (8-0-0-1) unbeaten streak came to an end Friday night on 80's Night presented by PNC with a 4-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers.

Starting the game with energy, the Nailers scored the game's first goal just four minutes into the contest. Walking down the slot, Morgan Ellis (11th) lifted a wrister over the blocker of Joel Martin

After a scoreless second period, the K-Wings wasted no time to get on the board to start the final stanza. Just 14-seconds in, Dane Fox (12th) tipped in a loose puck from just in front of the Nailers crease to even the game at 1-1. The goal tied Fox for the team lead with Matt Caria for goals scored.

Forging ahead for good minutes later, David Gilbert (12th) registered the eventual game-winner on a rebound.

Finding insurance in the final minute, Wheeling added empty-net goals from Riley Brace (11th) and Ellis (12th) to close out the scoring.

The K-Wings and Nailers will square off again tomorrow, Saturday, January 31 st at Wings Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. face-off on 90's Style Game Show Night, presented by Sam's Club. Sam's Club will host Supermarket Sweep during the first period intermission. Fans will also be able to compete in a lot of other popular 90's game shows from Family Feud to American Gladiators.
