ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES
- This evening, the Royals travel to Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana, to face the Indy Fuel in the fourth game of a late-January five game road trip, which began on Saturday, January 24, at North Charleston Coliseum with a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays. Reading then defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (6-3) in the only trip of the year to The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia, on Sunday, January 25. On Wednesday, the Royals made their fourth and final appearance at Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, notching a 7-2 win over the Evansville Icemen. This road trip concludes tomorrow at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, where the team will face the Cincinnati Cyclones for the first time this year (@ 7:35 pm).
- Tonight's game marks the fifth match-up of the year between the Royals and Fuel. Reading has compiled a 4-0-0-0 record so far against Indy with four more games (including tonight) to be played between the two teams.
- The eight-game series between Royals and Fuel opened with a pair of one-goal victories for Reading on November 22 and 23 at Santander Arena in Reading. The series then shifted to Indiana Farmers Coliseum, where Reading has won the first two games played here (6-3 on December 17; and 3-1 on January 3). After tonight, Reading and Indy will play one more time here in Indianapolis (on March 27) before concluding the 2014-15 regular season against one another in Reading on April 11 and 12.
- The Royals' 7-2 win in Evansville on Wednesday pushed the team's current win streak to five, which ties the season long stretch of consecutive victories (previously established from December 17 through 27).
- Reading has won six of the team's last seven games, nine of the last twelve, fourteen of the last eighteen, and seventeen of the last twenty-one.
- Wednesday's victory served to jump the Royals into second place of the East Division for the first time this season with a record of 26-13-1-1=54, thirteen games over .500, which is the team season high- water mark with respect to games over .500.
- The victory also stretched Reading's road win streak to four consecutive victories on the road (dating to January 17). The team season-long for consecutive road victories is six (12/17/14 - 01/03/15). The Royals' 14-5-1-0 record on the road translates into a .725 win percentage.
- The win in Evansville on Wednesday victory was the 250th career win for Larry Courville, who is in his sixth full season as the head coach of the Royals. His overall record of 250-153-36, which translates into a .611 win percentage.
- Reading scored the game's first goal on Wednesday for the third consecutive time. The Royals have compiled a record of 18-4-0-1 when scoring first this season (and 9-3-0-0 on the road).
- The seven goals scored on Wednesday established a new team season-high for Reading, who have scored a total of thirteen goals in the last two games and are scoring goals at an average of 3.56 goals per game (fifth in the league).
- The five goal margin of victory (7-2) over the Icemen also established a team season-high for margin of victory for the Royals.
- For the second consecutive game, six different players for Reading registered multi-point performances against the Icemen on Wednesday: Cam Reid (3g-1a), Olivier Labelle (1g-2a) Jordan Heywood (1g-1a), Andrew Johnston (1g-1a), Pat Mullane (0g-2a), and Adam Hughesman (0g-2a). Twelve of the sixteen skaters for Reading on Wednesday recorded at least one point in the game.
- Cam Reid not only snapped an eight game goal scoring drought Wednesday, he also recorded the first hat-trick of the season for Reading in that game. His four-point performance (3g-1a) tied the team season high. (Ryan Cruthers had has two four point games this year.)
- For Reid, his second goal against the Icemen (18:26 into the first period) proved to be his fourth game winner of the year, which is second most on the team. (David Marshall leads the Royals with six game winning goals.) Reid has also bagged a shootout winner this year for Reading (on November 14, 2014 in Kalamazoo).
- Olivier Labelle (1g-2a) scored his team leading sixteenth goal of the season on Wednesday. Labelle has had three multi-point games (and two three-point performances) in his last four games. He has recorded twenty-two points (11g-11a) in his last twenty-one games.
- Adam Hughesman (0g-2a) recorded his tenth multi-point game against the Icemen-including back-to- back two point games. Hughesman has ten points (5g-5a) in his last nine games.
- Pat Mullane (0g-2a) recorded his team-leading thirteenth multi-point game in Evansville-and his sixth multi-point game in his last twelve games played. Mullane has fourteen points (3g-11a) in that twelve game time span (and thirty-five points, 10g-25a, in his last thirty games).
- Andrew Johnston (1g-1a) recorded his second multi-point game of the year on Wednesday. Johnston has four goals (and six points) in his last seven games.
- Goaltender Connor Knapp pushed his personal win streak to four straight games with the twenty-three save victory in Evansville on Wednesday. This marks the second four game win streak of the year for Knapp, who has won eight of his last ten games.
- Although Reading's power play was held off the board on Wednesday (0-6) (which included 55 seconds of five-on-three), the Royals' fifth goal (by Olivier Labelle) 48 seconds into the third period came five seconds after the conclusion of a power play chance. Reading has scored at least one power play goal in eight of the last eleven games, going 13 for 49 in that time span (26.5%).
- The Royals penalty kill has blanked the opposition's power play in six of the last seven games, killing 24 of the last 25 chances the opposition has had with the man advantage (96.0% kill ratio). Overall, Reading's PK has held the opposition's power play off the board in twenty-five of the games played so far this season, and the team has compiled a record of 19-4-1-1 in those games.
