Brampton Beast News Release

Tulsa, OK - The Brampton Beast came into tonight's matchup on the road looking to keep the momentum they gained after their 4-1 demolishing of the Elmira Jackals last Sunday. While the defensive effort was noticeably improved, it was the Tulsa Oilers, losers of three straight on the road coming into tonight, who would use home ice to their advantage picking up the 5-2 victory at the BOK Center.

The first period was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Beast limit the Oilers to only 10 shots, most of which were from outside the hash marks, a point of emphasis for the Beast defense. This was an especially strong effort as the Beast were forced to kill off over a full minute of 5-on-3 Oilers powerplay in the first half of the period.

Justin Donati drew first blood for the Beast what can only be described as a gorgeous tic-tac-toe goal. Twin brother Tyler started the play by skating the puck into the Oilers zone and delivering a cross-ice pass from his knees to Mathew Maione, who made a one-touch feed to Justin on the doorstep, who deked Oilers goalie Brandon Anderson and buried his fifth goal of the season at the 6:41 mark of the frame.

The strong defensive effort continued throughout the period, but it was a late hooking call on Jason Pitton that opened the door for the Oilers to even things up. With the Oilers on the man advantage, Tulsa rookie sensation Jeff Jubinville tied game up 1-1 with his 15th goal of the season top-shelf over the glove hand of netminder Trevor Cann with only 36 seconds remaining in the first period.

The gritty style of play continued into the second period, which saw rookie blueliner Riley Austin sacrifice the body with a huge block in front of the net before skating back to the bench. Another Beast rookie, Brayden Rose, celebrated his 22nd birthday by shedding the gloves and dropping newly acquired Oiler Brady Ramsay in a short scrap.

What was a fairly defensive game completely broke open with less than 4 minutes remaining in the second period. The offensive flurry began while the Oilers were playing shorthanded; a fortunate bounce saw Jubinville with the puck on his stick all alone in front and he made no mistake on the play, roofing his second goal of the evening past Cann at the 16:24 mark of the frame. With the Beast still on the man-advantage less than a minute later, Jason Pitton put the puck over Anderson to knot the game 2-2 with his team-leading 16th goal of the season. Chad Painchaud would record an assist on the play, extending both players' point streaks to 4 games.

The fast-paced second period continued with Jubinville firing a clapper from the top of the slot and potting his third goal of the night barely 40 seconds after the Beast tied up the game for Jubinville's first professional hat trick.

Falling behind late in the second period created a shift in play to start the third. What was a tightly contested defensive battle for the first 40 minutes became a much more wide open game in the final 20. Both goalies would regularly bail out their teams with timely and athletic saves but a fantastic individual effort by Oilers forward Tommy Mele saw him get around a Beast defenseman and turn on the jets before poking the puck through the pads of Cann at the 6:32 mark of the third period. The two goal deficit would prove to be too much to overcome and the Oilers would add an insurance marker late in the game when from T.J. Caig to seal the win.

The Beast will be back in action tomorrow night against the very same Tulsa Oilers squad at the BOK Center. Puck drop is slated for 8:30 PM EST. Once that contest is in the books, the Beast get back on the team bus and travel to Quad City, Illinois to close out the month of January. After facing the Mallards the Beast will return home to the Powerade Centre to take on the Allen Americans on Winning Weekday, Thursday, February 5. If the Beast win, fans in attendance will win a free ticket to the Beast's next weekday game against the Tulsa Oilers on February 17. Additionally, fans are encouraged to bring a jersey to toss on the ice when the Beast score. February 6 will be the night the Beast will unveil their new Canada-themed alternate jerseys, on Guaranteed Fun Night! If you don't have fun, get your money back!
