Thunder Acquire Former NHL Draft Pick

Wichita, KS (Jan. 30th) - The Wichita Thunder, proud member of the ECHL and powered by Toyota, announced a trade this afternoon, acquiring forward Nick Larson from the Orlando Solar Bears for future considerations.

Larson, 25, has played in 23 games for the Solar Bears this season, collecting 11 points (3g, 8). A native of Apple Valley, Minnesota, the third year pro is a former draft pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft (4th round, #108 overall). The 6-foot-2, 207-pound forward made his professional debut with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League in 2012-13 and played in five games. Larson appeared in 17 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL), picking up six points (4g, 2a) before heading to the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL. He finished the 2013-14 season with the South Carolina Stingrays. Overall, he has appeared in 57 games in the ECHL, scoring 23 points (12g, 11a) and picking up 90 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Larson played a four-year career at the University of Notre Dame and helped lead the Irish to a CCHA title during his senior season. In 152 career games, he recorded 47 points (25g, 22a) and collected 194 penalty minutes. As a member of the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL, Larson was seventh in the league with 144 penalty minutes while also finishing sixth on the team with 19 goals during the 2008-09 season and earned a spot in the USHL All-Star Game. That same year, he played for gold-medal winning Team USA at the Junior A Challenge.

Wichita returns home for the first time in two weeks tonight to take on Quad City at 7:05 p.m.
