Mullins Named MWL Pitcher of the Week

Beloit Snappers left-handed pitcher Ryan Mullins was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 3-9. Mullins earned his second win of the season Wednesday, July 5 against the South Bend Silver Hawks, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mullins threw a complete game shutout with six strikeouts to earn the victory. He walked one batter and scattered four hits in the game. Wednesday's game was Mullins' first complete game of the season and his second win of the season. The win was Mullins' first victory since April 25.
Mullins was drafted by the Twins in the third round of the 2005 June draft out of Vanderbilt University. This season Mullins has a 2-4 record with a 4.15 ERA. He has fanned 78 batters in 95.1 innings pitched.
Mullins is the third Snappers pitcher to be selected as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week this season. Oswaldo Sosa and David Shinskie were selected earlier in the season. Eric Lis was selected as the Midwest League Player of the Week in May.
The Snappers battle the Swing of the Quad Cities, an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals in Davenport, Iowa July 12-14. The Snappers return to Pohlman Field to face the West Michigan Whitecaps, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers July 15-18. Currently, the Snappers are in a tie for the Western Division lead.
