Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL-The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that they have added infielder Ryan Lilly from Mesa in the Arizona League. The 22 year-old infielder takes the roster spot of shortstop Dylan Johnston, who has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a high ankle sprain, retroactive to Monday.

Lilly, a non-drafted free agent signed by the Cubs in June, is out of Tucson, AZ and Canyon Del Oro High School where he was first team all-state in both football and baseball and led his diamond teammates to a state championship with a .404 batting average.

From there, the 6'1 205 pounder attended Central Arizona Community College for two seasons before moving on to the University of San Diego for two more years. In his final season at USD, the right-handed throwing and hitting infielder batted .279 with a homer and 33 RBIs. He was also part of a Torreos team that advanced to an NCAA regional before being eliminated in its third game.

With Mesa this year, Lilly played in 15 games and hit .245 with 3 doubles and 6 runs driven-in. He also walked seven times and was a perfect 2-2 in stolen base attempts. For Johnston, this is second time this season the 19 year-old has been on the DL. He missed action earlier this season with a sprained thumb.
