Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers busted out a 15-2 victory over the Peoria Chiefs Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. Jeff Flaig had four hits and four RBI to pace the Rattler offense. Kuo Hui Lo had three hits and was a homer shy of the cycle and Johan Limonta had an inside-the-park homer. David Asher made his first professional start and worked five scoreless innings for the win. The Rattlers had ten extra base hits and set season highs in runs and hits in the rout.
Flaig gave Wisconsin (32-58 overall, 5-15 second half) the early lead with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the second inning.
Adam Moore made it 3-0 with an RBI groundout in the top of the third inning. Then, with one on and two out, Limonta lined the ball over the head of Chief centerfielder Yusuf Carter. The ball lodged under the padding on the wall and Limonta circled the bases for his first professional home run and a 5-0 Timber Rattler lead.
Wisconsin banged out three more doubles in the top of the fourth inning to score three more runs and take an 8-0 lead. Flaig started the inning with his second double. Travis Scott doubled to knock in Flaig. Chief starter Todd Blackford retired the next batter, but issued a walk to Michael Saunders and was pulled from the game. Luis Valbuena greeted Peoria reliever Jesse Estrada with an RBI double to send Scott across the plate. Another RBI grounder by Moore capped the scoring in the inning.
Saunders knocked in a run in the top of the sixth inning with a single. Flaig made it 10-0 with an RBI single in the seventh.
Asher left after allowing just two hits over five innings and turned things over the Rattler bullpen. Edgar Guaramato pitched two scoreless frames. Lance Beus worked a scoreless eighth. Then, the Rattler bats went to work one more time.
Wisconsin scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Flaig knocked in his fourth run of the night with a single. Then, Hudson stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two out. He lined a single to left that scored one run, two more runs crossed the plate after leftfielder Alberto Garcia missed the ball. Hudson scored on a double by Saunders to make the score 15-0.
Peoria (52-37, 11-9) got on the board with two runs off Harold Williams in the bottom of the ninth but it was a case of way too little, way too late.
The second game of the series is scheduled for Thursday night. Jose Escalona (4-8, 3.98ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jesus Yepez (4-4, 4.35ERA) is set to go for the Chiefs. Game time is 7:00pm.
