South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
South Bend - There have been times this season when the South Bend Silver Hawks have thought their manger, Mark Haley, has been a minister more than he has been the teams manager. In many of Haley's discussions with the team, he has preached one thing, consistency. For the Hawks, the message has been clear. While learning to become professionals, they must become consistent. The Hawks have heeded the message and for the sixth consecutive game, came out on top with an 8-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons.
The Hawks distanced themselves from the Dragons in the first inning. A hit batsman and walk gave Will Crouch an RBI chance and he delivered with a two run triple, scoring Leyson Septimo and Justin Upton, who reached after being hit by a pitch and walked respectively. After Bryan Byrne reached on a free pass, Crouch scored on a run producing single by Ricardo Sosa for a Hawks 3-0 advantage. The Hawks last two runs of the frame came when second baseman Mike Griffin allowed a Trey Hendricks ball to get between his legs, bringing Byrne home and moving Sosa to third. Sosa then scored when catcher Chris Denove's attempt to throw out a stealing Trey Hendricks sailed into center field, putting the Hawks up 5-0.
The Silver Hawks Will Crouch was the offensive star of the game, going 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI. He has connected via long distance six times over the last six games and for the fourth straight game Wednesday.
The Silver Hawks (49-37, 16-4) continue their three game series Thursday night with the Dragons. First pitch is slated for 7PM. Thursday is Triple Play Thursday, presented by 103.9 the Bear and WB 25. Fans can purchase reserve seat tickets for $3 and Michelob Ultra in the Budweiser Bullpen Bar and Grille for $3.
Tickets for all Silver Hawks games can be purchased by calling the box office at (574) 235-9988 or visiting www.silverhawks.com.
