Kane County Cougars News Release

Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars began a seven-game homestand Wednesday night at Elfstrom, falling 6-1 to the Burlington Bees. Making matters worse, Cougars starter Ron Madej left the game in the fifth inning due to a left groin strain. Steve Kleen had two hits, Jeff Baisley drove in the home team's lone run and Isaac Omura extended his season-best hitting streak to nine games to lead the offense.

The Bees scored twice in the opening inning against Madej with four consecutive hits before an out was recorded. Madej (2-3), whose two wins this season have come against Burlington, settled down to last 4 1/3 innings before leaving with injury. He gave up the pair of tallies on five hits, walked four and struck out two in the loss. The 2-0 count remained until the seventh inning, as the Cougars stranded eight runners through six frames and struggled against Burlington's Erik Cordier (1-1). After Jeff Gray worked 1 1/3 innings of perfect relief, the Bees hooked four runs -- three earned -- on Joe Newby in the top of the seventh for a 6-0 affair.

The Cougars' lone run came in the bottom half when Omura and Baisley connected for consecutive two-out doubles against reliever Chris Hayes.

The three-game set between the Cougars (11-9) and Bees (9-11) continues Thursday night at 6:30 CDT, as Jared Lansford (7-5, 3.77) squares off against Mario Santiago (1-1, 3.75).
