Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris and midfielder Cristian Roldan have been called into the United States Men's National team for a training camp in Los Angeles from December 6-17, culminating with a friendly against Bosinia & Herzegovina on December 18 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Additionally, Tacoma Defiance midfielder Marlon Vargas has also earned his first international callup for El Salvador for friendlies against Ecuador on December 4 in Houston and Chile on December 11 in Los Angeles.
Morris, 27, makes his return to the U.S. Men's National Team after missing nine months due to an ACL tear he suffered while on loan with Swansea City. The Mercer Island native has 39 career caps with the Stars and Stripes, including 17 starts and 10 career international goals. Morris' last call-up for the USMNT came late in 2019, when he made four appearances in Concacaf Nations League play. Morris was idle for most of 2021 due to his injury, making his return to the pitch for Sounders FC on November 2 against LA Galaxy and getting his first start of the season in the Rave Green's playoff match on November 23 against Real Salt Lake.
Roldan, 26, is becoming a familiar face for the U.S. Men's National Team, recording 29 career caps and 13 starts. He earned a call-up for this summer's Concacaf Gold Cup, where he earned five caps during a title-winning effort. The University of Washington product has also appeared in four matches during the USMNT World Cup qualifying campaign this year. Roldan earned a callup earlier in 2021 for an international friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on February 1, a 7-0 win for the USMNT where the midfielder appeared for 26 minutes. Roldan tallied six goals and six assists for Sounders FC during the 2021 MLS campaign.
Vargas, 20, earns his first career call-up for El Salvador after a year with Tacoma Defiance that saw him score two goals and record three assists while appearing in 18 games. The midfielder has 65 career appearances for Tacoma dating back to 2018, tallying six goals in that time. Before he made the jump to Tacoma Defiance, Marlon played for Sounders FC's U-17 team, making 20 appearances and scoring 14 goals during the 2017-2018 season.
Sounders FC prepares for the 2022 season after it bowed out of the postseason with a Round One exit to Real Salt Lake via penalty kicks after 120 minutes of scoreless action.
