Back-To-Back MLS Defender of the Year and 2021 MLS Best XI Selection Walker Zimmerman Called up for International Friendly
December 3, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Nashville SC News Release
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville Soccer Club announced today in conjunction with U.S. Soccer, that Defender Walker Zimmerman has been added to the final Men's National Team roster will represent the United States Men's National Team in the upcoming friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Zimmerman and the USMNT will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Kickoff for this contest is slated for 7 p.m. CT and will be nationally televised on FS1, UniMás, TUDN.
Zimmerman has been a mainstay for the United States Men's National Team since bursting on the scene. In this calendar year alone, Zimmerman has made eight appearances for the USMNT and has 22 overall caps for the United States.
In his most recent call-up Zimmerman started and played the full 90 minutes against Mexico in a World Cup Qualifying match and anchored the United States backline to a shutout in another 'Dos A Cero' victory for the States on Nov. 12.
Zimmerman served as the captain during the first round of the 2021 Gold Cup for the United States and wore the armband once again during WCQ matches.
Zimmerman is coming off a 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup call up that saw the reigning MLS Defender of the Year start all three matches in the opening round while captaining the National Team for the final two matches. The July 16 Gold Cup match against Martinique was the first time Zimmerman had worn the captain's band for the USMNT in his career while leading the United States to 6-1 victory.
This week Zimmerman was named the 2021 MLS Defender of the Year and the 2021 MLS Best XI. More on those awards can be found in the links.
