Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that Homegrown goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina was named to the U.S. Men's National Team roster for the upcoming match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday, Dec. 18 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. It is the first call-up to the senior USMNT for Slonina, who has represented the U.S. Youth National Teams at the U-14, U-17 and U-20 level.
The match against Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on FS1, UniMás and TUDN. Players will begin reporting to camp on Sunday, Dec. 5, for what will be the final friendly match for the USMNT ahead of three FIFA World Cup Qualifiers during the winter window.
Slonina will be part of a goalkeeping trio that includes Matt Turner from the New England Revolution and Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper John Pulskamp. Most recently, Slonina joined the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team at the Revelations Cup in Celaya, Mexico in November. He played in the opening match against Brazil on Wednesday, Nov. 10 and captained the squad in the final match against host Mexico on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
Slonina became the youngest goalkeeper in Major League Soccer history to start a match and earn a shutout when he made his professional debut against New York City FC on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Soldier Field, keeping his first clean sheet in the 0-0 tie. He finished the season with 11 appearances (11 starts), 45 saves and four shutouts.
The young goalkeeper became the 13th Homegrown player to sign with the Chicago Fire on March 8, 2019 after spending three seasons with the Chicago Fire Academy.
