Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has re-signed defender Wyatt Omsberg to a new contract. Omsberg is under contract with the Fire through the 2022 season with Club options for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
"Wyatt is a consistent and hard-working defender with a team-first mentality," said Sporting Director Georg Heitz. "His re-addition to the roster provides us with depth at the center back position as we continue to prepare for a very important 2022 season."
Omsberg, 26, was originally acquired by the Fire in a trade with Minnesota United FC on Feb. 11, 2020. In two seasons with Chicago, the American defender has made 23 appearances (13 starts) in regular season play. Prior to joining the Fire, Omsberg was selected by Minnesota United as the No. 15 overall pick in the 2018 MLS Super Draft and spent two seasons with the club.
The Fire will kick off its 25th season in MLS on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Inter Miami CF (5:00 p.m. CT), before playing its 2022 home opener on Saturday, March 5 against Orlando City SC at Soldier Field. Scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. CT, the match against Orlando City will mark the earliest home opener in Club history.
Season tickets for the 2022 campaign are currently available for purchase here. The complete 2022 regular season schedule will be announced at a later date.
