Three unanswered goals and 38 saves from goalie Calvin Pickard helped the Lake Erie Monsters (24-26-0-6) to a 3-2 victory over the North Division leading Toronto Marlies (33-19-2-2) Friday night before a Quicken Loans Arena crowd of 13,034. Brad Malone scored twice and Paul Carey added a goal in the Monsters win. The two teams combined for 200 penalty minutes in the game.

Brad Malone opened the scoring, giving the Monsters a 1-0 lead at 14:22 of the first period when he tipped in a Brett Clark point shot. Andrew Agozzino also assisted on Malone's seventh goal of the season. The Monsters carried their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Monsters added another goal in the second period- a power play goal- at 13:16 of the second period. Matt Hunwick was denied by Drew MacIntyre on a breakaway, but Hunwick collected his own rebound and spotted Malone open at the top of the left circle. Malone one-timed a Hunwick pass into the Toronto net. The goal was the second of the game for Malone, and his eighth goal of the season, and was also assisted by Mike Sgarbossa.

Paul Carey scored at 14:17 of the third period on the power play to give the Monsters a 3-0 lead, with assists to Karl Stollery and Hunwick. The goal was the eighth of the season for Carey. Spencer Abbott and Jerry D'Amigo added a pair of goals in the final 2:41 for Toronto, but the Monsters were able to preserve the lead for the win.
