Falcons Sign Mike Banwell to PTO

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons announced Friday that defenseman Mike Banwell has been signed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Banwell, 26, has appeared in 49 games this season with the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League, totaling 14 points (two goals, 12 assists), 42 penalty minutes and a +9 rating. The Scarborough, Ontario native has also seen action is two games with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

This will be Banwell's second stint with the Falcons after playing in 19 games with the team in 2012-13. The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder amassed two assists, 30 penalty minutes and a -7 rating in his time with Springfield.

Banwell is a veteran of 68 AHL games and 70 ECHL contests.

The Falcons continue their current four-game road trip with three games away from the MassMutual Center this weekend. The team visits the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m., the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. and the Portland Pirates Sunday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m.

Fans are invited to the MassMutual Center in 2013-14 to watch the reigning Northeast Division-champion Falcons compete in their 20th anniversary season.
