Springfield Falcons News Release
Hartford, Conn. - The Springfield Falcons (34-18-1-5) were defeated by the Hartford Wolf Pack by the final score of 6-2 Friday night at XL Center, falling for the fourth straight time to the divisional rival.
The Wolf Pack scored four unanswered goals over the span of the final two periods to separate itself from the Falcons. Jesper Fast scored the eventual game-winning goal at 7:35 of the second period, his 11th goal of the season. Hartford's Arron Asham, T.J. Hensick and Tommy Hughes added insurance goals in the third period.
Falcons captain Ryan Craig scored twice in the opening frame, dissolving two early Hartford leads. Craig's first goal was scored at the 10:55 mark, burying home a rebound off of newly-acquired forward Dana Tyrell's slap shot from the right-wing circle. Tyrell was credited with the primary assist, his first point as a member of the Falcons.
Craig scored again at 19:05 to even the score at two goals apiece, chipping in a loose puck in front of the net.
Danny Kristo gave Hartford a 1-0 lead 1:45 into the contest, sneaking a bad-angle shot off of a Falcons defenseman's skate and past Springfield netminder Jeremy Smith. J.T. Miller regained the lead for the Wolf Pack at 14:17 of the first period, firing a slap shot from the point that again deflected off of a Springfield defenseman and into the net on a 5-on-3 man advantage.
Smith made 24 saves on 30 shots, falling to 18-12-3 this season. Hartford goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 31 of 33 shots en route to his 12th victory of 2013-14.
Springfield went 0-for-3 on the power play. Hartford went 1-for-4.
The Falcons continue their current four-road trip Saturday, March 8 when they visit the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:00 p.m.
