March 7, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
The St. John's IceCaps and Purolator collected 8,575 pounds of food during a pair of Purolator Shut Out Hunger Food Drives this season to support the Community Food Sharing Association.
The most recent event was held last Saturday prior to the IceCaps game versus the Binghamton Senators, while the first took place December 7th prior to the IceCaps contest against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. IceCaps fans were encouraged to participate by bringing non-perishable food items to the Purolator volunteers stationed at the Mile One Centre entrances. In return, fans had their names entered into a draw for a replica IceCaps jersey.
"The St. John's IceCaps are happy to see the continued success of this partnership with Purolator to help a worthy and impactful organization such as the Community Food Sharing Association," said IceCaps President and Chief Executive Officer, Danny Williams. "I'm proud that our fans continue to give so generously to those in need."
"We are thrilled that Purolator was able to contribute to the success of these annual food drives for the second year in a row," said Stephen Noseworthy, Purolator's District Manager, Newfoundland and Labrador. "Our employees look forward to each food drive we do with the IceCaps because it gives them an opportunity to help others in the community and they are proud to be a part of an initiative with such meaningful results."
"Once again this year we are so thankful for the support from the IceCaps and Purolator," said Eg Walters, Executive Director of the Community Food Sharing Association. "The need for food is never ending and the support of endeavours like Purolator Shut Out Hunger helps keep our doors open and provide food for those in need."
The Community Food Sharing Association and its 56 member agencies provide support to nearly 30,000 clients in need of food. All proceeds from the food drives support the Community Food Sharing Association, which is fighting to end hunger by providing food and resources to those in need in throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
