LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Lowell (10/26): Right wing Grant Marshall tallied the game winning goal to lead the Lowell Devils over the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Rookie center Brady Murray tallied his first goal for the Monarchs, the lone Manchester goal. Center Ivan Khomutov put the Devils on the board with a first period goal. Monarchs goaltender Dan Cloutier took the loss with 16 saves. Devils netminder Frank Doyle earned the win stopping 37-of-38 shots. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Lowell did not have a power play opportunity in the game.
Portland (10/27): Center Gabe Gauthier scored the knockout blow in overtime to raise the Manchester Monarchs over the Portland Pirates, 3-2, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Gauthier's fourth tally of the season joined defensemen Troy Milam and Brian Boyle on the scoreboard. Center Matt Keith and right wing Bobby Ryan scored for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg took the overtime victory stopping 24 shots. Pirates netminder Jonas Hiller took the loss with 34 saves. Manchester was 2-for-4 on the power play. Portland went 1-for-4 with the man advantatge.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (3-3-1-1) are tied for sixth place in the Atlantic Division with the Lowell Devils (4-4-0-0). Each team has eight points.
The Monarchs power play is ranked third in the AHL with 23.7-percent and the penalty kill is in 28th place with 74.3-percent.
The Monarchs have the second best home power play record as they have scored seven goals on 25 opportunities at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester has only scored two power play tallies on the road for 17th place in the league.
