Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The B-Sens (4-3-1-0, 9 pts.) were 2-1 in three games this past weekend, winning both road contests.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26th vs. HERSHEY (2-3 OTL): The B-Sens and Bears battled for more than 62 minutes before this contest was decided. Rookie center Ilya Zubov buried his second marker of the year, a power-play tally at 1:55 of the third, to tie the game a 1-1. Former Binghamton Senators' winger Grant Potulny gave the Bears a 2-1 lead with his second tally of the night, unassisted of the faceoff. Center Justin Mapletoft responded for the B-Sens, netting his first marker of the season to knot it at 2 apiece. Kyle Wilson scored off a loose puck in front of the net to give Hershey the victory.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27TH @ WBS (4-2 W): Winger Jeremy Yablonski took a feed from Denis Hamel and went to the backhand to tie the game at 1 apiece. Three minutes later Hamel buried a power-play goal as he collected a rebound from a Danny Bois' shot and tapped it past netminder Karl Goehring. The Senators held the 2-1 lead until Hamel struck again at the 14:09 mark of the middle stanza, as rookies Brian Lee and Alexander Nikulin assisted on marker. The Penguins closed the gap as defenseman Kristopher Letang smashed a one-timer which deflected off a defender and past netminder Jeff Glass. The B-Sens defense held the Penguins in-check the rest of the way, while capped his hat trick with an empty netter with 30 second left in the third. Glass stopped 23 of 25 shots to earn his second victory of the year. The hat trick was the franchise-leading sixth for Hamel, who also had an assist for a four point night.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28TH @ ROC (5-4 W): The B-Sens outlasted the Amerks in this high-scoring contest. Nine B-Sens' players contributed points and the team's combined for five power-play goals. The Amerks added a short-handed tally in this special teams' battle. Following an even-strength tally by the Amerks midway through the opening period, Binghamton scored four unanswered goals to make it a 4-1 contest early in the third period. Rookie Brian Lee lit the lamp for his first professional marker, while Danny Bois, Josh Hennessy and Justin Mapletoft added the other markers. Rochester added its second goal of the night before winger Greg Mauldin netted the game-winner. Mauldin worked up the right boards then launched a one-timer past David Shantz to give the B-Sens their second victory in as many nights.
