Manchester Monarchs News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - The Manchester Monarchs fired a season high 54 shots on goal in a 6-5 shootout victory over the Adirondack Thunder at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Monarchs (23-12-1-4) defeated the Thunder (25-9-1-2) 6-5 in a shootout and improved to 3-5-0-0 against Adirondack this season.
The Monarchs struck first when Danick Paquette notched his 5th goal of the season at 10:59 of the first. Newcomer Alex Guptill left a pass at the top of the left circle for a streaking Matt Leitner, who then skated toward goaltender Kent Simpson. Leitner threw a pass out front where Paquette was waiting for the doorstep goal.
Adirondack responded at 15:25 of the opening period with James Henry's 3rd goal of the season. Mitchell Heard sent a pass from below the right face-off circle out front to Henry, who beat a sprawling Doug Carr to tie the game at one going into the first intermission.
The Thunder struck early in second period when Dana Fraser notched his 6th goal of the season at 1:09 of the frame. Fraser skated in up the right side, got behind the Monarchs defense and beat Carr with a forehand deke to give Adirondack the 2-1 lead.
The Monarchs tied the game at two with Alex Guptill's first goal in a Monarchs uniform at 2:10 of the second period. After Matt Leitner forced a Mitchell Heard turnover at the offensive blueline, Leitner sent a pass to Guptill in the right-wing circle where Guptill dangled around a defender and beat Simpson with a wrist shot.
Manchester responded just twelve seconds later with Maxim Kitsyn's team leading 15th goal of the season at 2:22 of the period. Joey Diamond skated into the left wing circle and threw a pass out front to Kitsyn for a redirection that found its way over the shoulder of Simpson.
The Monarchs would strike again with Derek Arnold's 10th goal of the season at 8:57 of the period. Maxim Kitsyn controlled the puck below the goal line and sent a backhand pass across the top of the crease and through the Adirondack defense where it deflected off a skate right to Arnold for the easy tap in goal, giving Manchester a 4-2 lead.
Adirondack answered once again at 11:54 of the second frame with Ryan Constant's 5th goal of the season. Peter MacArthur sent a pass from the bottom of the right face-off circle to the high slot where the streaking Constant fired a wrist shot past Carr to bring the Thunder within a goal.
The Thunder struck back with the 7th goal of the season from Greg Wolfe at 14:31 of the period. Peter MacArthur sent a pass to the blue line where Ryan Constant sent a one-timer toward Carr. As Carr kicked away the shot, Wolfe was there awaiting the rebound, tying the contest at four.
Manchester responded with Derek Arnold's second of the night (11th of the season) at 16:31 of the second period. Yann Sauve fired a slapshot at Simpson and Arnold buried the rebound to give the Monarchs the 5-4 lead going into the dressing room after two periods.
Adirondack tied the game at five with Jeff Silengo's 7th of the season at 15:56 of the third period. Mitchell Heard sent a pass toward the front of the net where Silengo was waiting to tape in the shot past Carr to send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the two teams resorted to a shootout. Manchester's Yann Sauve scored the lone goal in the second round of the shootout session and the Manchester left the Glens Falls Civic Center with two points.
These two team will meet again Saturday evening on Law Enforcement Night from the Verizon Wireless Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
