INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Daniel Ciampini and Cody Sharib scored early goals just 52 seconds apart and Mac Carruth made 29 saves as the host Indy Fuel (19-20-2) defeated the Quad City Mallards (19-17-3) Friday night.

Ciampini charged down the slot to rifle the opening goal in under the crossbar just two minutes and 22 seconds into the game. The Fuel lead doubled when Sharib pounced on a rebound less than a minute later.

The Mallards' Jared Knight cut the gap to 2-1 by capitalizing on a turnover by Carruth at 9:34 of the second period. Knight fired the puck home from the left wing circle as the Indy goaltender scrambled back into the crease.

Carruth and the Fuel kept the Mallards at bay the rest of the way. Indy held on to the lead even after the Mallards pulled netminder Brody Hoffman (35 saves) for an extra attacker late in the third period and pressed for a tying goal in the dying seconds.

The Mallards and Fuel meet again tomorrow night in Indianapolis. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday, February 3 at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.
