Last Game

The Kalamazoo Wings jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead on the way to a 7-2 win over the host Mallards Sunday. Kevin Henderson (shorthanded) and Kyle Follmer provided the Mallard goals to tighten the contest in the second period but the Wings pulled away with three third period goals.

Race

The second place Mallards now trail the Fort Wayne Komets by five points in the race for the top spot in the Midwest Division. The Mallards are two points ahead of third place Cincinnati and three points clear of the fourth place Fuel.

Busy

The Mallards went 2-1-0 while playing three games in 48 hours last weekend. With Sunday's loss they dropped to 3-2-0 this season when playing a third game in three days.

One-Sided

Sunday's 7-2 loss to Kalamazoo was the Mallards most lopsided defeat of the season. The Mallards Sunday lost by five goals for the first time since they were blanked 5-0 by the Brahmas in Fort Worth on November 28, 2012 in the Central Hockey League.

Red Light District

The Mallards Sunday also matched a season high for goals allowed first established in a 7-4 loss to Fort Wayne on January 8. The Mallards had allowed a total of just three goals while winning three straight games prior to Sunday's setback.

Failure to Launch

The Mallards gave up four first period goals Sunday. They surrendered the first goal to Kalamazoo's Curtis Valk just 17 seconds into the game and allowed a goal to the Wings' Lane Scheidl with just 1.6 seconds left in the first. Yesterday marked the first time the Mallards have been scored upon four times in one period since they gave up four goals in the opening period of a 7-5 win in Fort Wayne on December 29, 2014.

Century

Kevin Henderson's shorthanded strike early in the second period Sunday was the Mallards' one hundredth goal of the season. The Mallards are three games over .500 despite having been outscored 112-101.

On the Road Again

Tonight's game is the first of five in a row on the road for the Mallards. After completing their two game series in Indianapolis tomorrow night, the Mallards will visit Kalamazoo (January 29), Cincinnati (January 30) and Toledo (January 31).

Streaking

Austin Coldwell is in the midst of a team season best seven-game point-scoring streak (1-9-10) and seven-game assist streak.

Between the Pipes

The Mallards Sunday changed goaltenders during a game for the first time this season when Brody Hoffman replaced Steve Michalek at the start of the second period. Hoffman has faced at least 38 shots in each of his last five starts.

Rook

Matt Neal leads the Mallards in goals (11), is tied for sixth among ECHL rookies in goals and is tied for eighth among rookies in points (26).

Iron Mike

Among defenseman, Mike Monfredo is tied for fourth in the ECHL in assists (20) and tied for fifth in points (24).

Special Teams

The Mallards have scored just once in their last 18 power plays and are now tied for fourteenth in the ECHL on the man advantage (17.0 percent). After giving up four power play goals in their three games last weekend (on 16 shorthanded situations) the Mallards now rank eighth in the league in penalty killing (85.6 percent). The Mallards both scored (Henderson) and allowed (Justin Taylor) a shorthanded goal Sunday against Kalamazoo. The Mallards have how scored four shorthanded goals this season and given up three.

Head to Head

The Mallards have gone 2-4-0 against the Fuel this season and 0-3-0 in Indianapolis. The Mallards and Fuel will clash a total of ten times.

Ins and Outs

Jared Knight and Steve Michalek were assigned to the Mallards by Iowa (AHL) yesterday...Michalek returned yesterday after being recalled by Iowa Wednesday...Raphael Bussieres was recalled by Iowa (AHL) yesterday...Olivier Archambault (upper body) and Tanner Eberle (upper body) missed Sunday's game...Sam Warning (upper body) has missed the Mallards' last two games...Zach Pochiro (upper body), who has missed the Mallards' last nine games, is on 21-day injured reserve.
