Colorado Eagles News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Colorado Eagles used three goals in a 44 second span to blow-out the Rapid City Rush 5-1 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday night. The win also moves Colorado one point ahead of the Rush for third place in the West division standings.

Colorado dominated the attack in the first period, outshooting the Rush 17-6 in the opening frame. The Eagles would be rewarded for their efforts with just 2:51 remaining when forward Johnny Lazo took a pass in the low-slot from linemate Kyle Ostrow, one-timing a shot past Rush goaltender Danny Battochio to make it 1-0 Colorado.

Trailing 1-0 after the first 20 minutes, the Rush would strike back at the 10:33 mark of the second period when forward Danick Gauthier stuffed home a loose puck in the crease to knot the score at 1-1.

The Eagles would not only find an answer, they would find back-to-back-to-back answers, scoring three goals in a matter of 44 seconds. The onslaught started when forward Everett Sheen glided into the zone and snapped a wrister past Battochio at the 13:50 mark, giving the Eagles the lead at 2-1. 23 seconds later, Lazo would collect a loose puck on top of the crease and roof it home to grow the Eagles lead to 3-1. All of 21 seconds later, forward Kyle Kramer would fire a shot from the wall that would pop in and out of the glove of Battochio and into the back of the net, giving Colorado the 4-1 advantage. That would also be the end of the night for Battochio, who gave way to Sam Marotta in net.

The scoring would continue for Colorado in the third, as forward Darryl Bootland received a beautiful cross-slot feed from Lazo on the powerplay, tapping it into the net and giving the Eagles a 5-1 lead at the 7:18 mark of the third.

The Eagles would hold on for the 5-1 win, as Lazo finished the night with two goals and an assist, while Bootland also posted a three-point night with a goal and two assists. Eric Levine netted the win with 17 saves on 18 shots.

The Eagles wrap-up their two-game set in Rapid City when they drop the puck against the Rush at 7:05pm MST on Saturday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
