South Carolina Stingrays News Release
THE MATCHUP
The South Carolina Stingrays host the Atlanta Gladiators this evening as the two teams battle for the sixth time this season. The Gladiators took home a 4-1 victory at Infinte Energy Arena one week again against the Stingrays. Atlanta scored three goals in the third period, including two from defenseman Matt Register. The last time the two teams met up in North Charleston was on December 13. Andrew Rowe, currently with Bridgeport of the AHL, had the game-winning goal for the Stingrays as South Carolina beat Atlanta, 3-2.
QUICK RETURNS
The South Carolina Stingrays have received a big boost to the roster. The club completed a trade with the Indy Fuel that returned former Stingrays captain Kevin Quick to the Lowcountry. Quick, 27, brings vast experience and leadership to the Rays. He was a member of the Stingrays during the 2012-13 and 2013-2014 seasons, appearing in 74 games for the Stingrays during that time span. With South Carolina, he registered 21 points (three goals, 18 assists) and was named the ninth captain in team history in February 2013. Quick was originally a third round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lighting in 2006. He skated in six NHL games during the 2008-09 season, registering one assist. Quick also has vast ECHL experience, appearing in 163 ECHL games, registering 50 points. He helped guide the Florida Everblades to a Kelly Cup Championship in 2012.
MAGEE JOINS RAYS
The Stingrays added some scoring punch this week in a deal that sent goalie Branden Komm to Idaho. The club was reassigned Brandon Magee from the Texas Stars. The Edmonton, Alberta native has appeared in 31 games with Idaho, scoring 15 points (six goals, nine assists) to go along with 48 penalty minutes in his rookie season. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound forward was a member of Dallas Stars prospect team in Traverse City, Mich. tournament and attended NHL Training Camp with Dallas Stars.
CAMERON & VIGIER VS ATLANTA
Forwards Stephan Vigier and Brett Cameron both lead the Stingrays with four points in five games versus the Gladiators this season. Vigier has notched one goal and three assists, while Cameron has a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
