LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Omaha (2/22): Two power play goals in the third period lifted the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights over the Manchester
Monarchs, 2-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday night. Right wing Lauri Tukonen put the Monarchs on the
board midway through the second period with a power play goal. Omaha's two third period goals came from center Craig
MacDonald and left wing David Moss. Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust stopped 35 shots in the loss. Knights goaltender
Brent Krahn made 18 saves for the win. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Omaha was 2-for-5 with the man
advantage.
At Portland (2/24): A three-goal surge in the first period powered the Portland Pirates over the Manchester Monarchs by a
score of 4-2 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday night. Right wing Pierre Parenteau, center Geoff Peters,
center Joel Perrault and center Ryan Shannon scored for the Pirates. The Monarchs two tallies came from defenseman
Richard Seeley and left wing Jeff Tambellini. Manchester's goaltender Adam Hauser made 31 saves in the loss. Pirates
goaltender Nathan Marsters stopped 35 shots for the win. Manchester went 0-for-5 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-4
with the man advantage.
At Providence (2/25): Right wing Brad Smyth and left wing Jeff Tambellini collected shootout tallies and goaltender Barry
Brust blanked four shooters in the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 shootout victory over the Providence Bruins at the Dunkin'
Donuts Center on Satruday night. Defensemen Denis Grebeshkov and Richard Seeley along with right wing Lauri Tukonen
scored in regulation for the Monarchs. Center Nathan Robinson, defenseman Jonathan Sigalet and center Ben Guite scored
for the Bruins. Brust earned the win with 36 saves. Bruins goaltender Brian Eklund was credited with the shootout loss, his
second of the season, with 20 saves in just under 53 minutes of work. Goaltender Jordan Sigalet stopped four shots before
being replaced by Eklund in the first period. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-5 with the
man advantage.
At Providence (2/26): Centers Tyler Redenbach and Eric Healey scored three points each in the Providence Bruins 7-2
trouncing of the Manchester Monarchs at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday evening. Defenseman Mark Ardelan and
right wing Konstantin Pushkarev scored for the Monarchs. The Bruins collected tallies from Redenbach (2), Healey, center
Ben Guite, defenseman Mark Stuart, center Nathan Robinson and center Nate Thompson. Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust
stopped 28 shots in the loss. Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet earned the win with 26 saves. Manchester went 1-for-7 on the
power play. Providence was 3-for-7 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
2/27/06: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) recalled left wing Jeff Giuliano from loan to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
MONARCHS EVENTS/PROMOTIONS
2/28/06 - Max's Birthday Party - The Monarchs will be celebrating mascot Max's fifth birthday at the game on Tuesday,
February 28 versus the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05 p.m. Following the game, the Monarchs will have an indoor fireworks
show and will introduce Max's younger brother JR who is visiting during school vacation week.
3/1/06 - Youth Hockey Practice - Defensemen Mark Ardelan and Denis Grebeshkov will be at the West Side Arena from
5:15 - 6:45 p.m. helping out with the Manchester Flames Squirt 2 youth hockey practice.
3/2/06 - Youth Hockey Practice - Defenseman Richard Petiot and center Yanick Lehoux will be at the Tri-Town Ice Arena
from 6:20 - 7:20 p.m. helping out with the youth hockey practices.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (34-19-2-4, 74 points) dropped to third place in the Atlantic Division behind the Hartford Wolf
Pack (34-16-2-6, 76 points) following Sunday's loss to Providence. The Portland Pirates (37-14-5-3, 82 points) are eight
points ahead of the Monarchs to lead the Atlantic Division.
This is the first time since January 7 that the Monarchs have not been in possession of second place in the Atlantic Division.
The club has sent 20 out of their 59 games into overtime and/or a shootout this season, winning 14 out of those 20 games.
Manchester is 9-4 in shootouts and 5-2 in overtime games this season.
The Monarchs are undefeated at home on Sundays (4-0-0-0).
Manchester is undefeated (12-0-0-0) when they score five or more goals.
When the Monarchs score only two goals, the team is 0-7-0-0 on the road and 1-9-0-1 overall.
With special teams, the Monarchs power play is ranked 26th in the League, capitalizing 47 times on 347 opportunities with
the man advantage. Ranked 16th in penalty killing, Manchester has given up 64 goals on 368 opportunities.
Manchester has the lowest number of penalty minutes in the AHL with 947 penalty minutes, the only team below 1,000.
The Monarchs lead the AHL in attendance after 27 home games, averaging 8,514 fans per game.
Right wing Brad Smyth (26-35=61) leads the team with 26 goals, 35 assists and 61 points.
At 6-foot, 200-pounds and a native of Ottawa, Ontario, Smyth's 59 points are tied for 12th among the AHL's top scorers.
Smyth is tied for fifth in the AHL with a plus/minus of plus-18.
Left wing Jeff Tambellini is second in team scoring for the Monarchs with 55 points (24-31=55).
A former University of Michigan Wolverine, Tambellini is ranked third in the AHL among rookie scorers (55 points), tied
for third among rookie goal scorers (24) and is ranked sixth among rookies in assists (31).
Tambellini is tied for third among AHL rookies and tied for 10th in the AHL with his plus/minus of plus-17.
Defenseman Richard Petiot is also tied with Tambellini for third among AHL rookies and 10th in the AHL with a
plus/minus of plus-17.
Right wing Petr Kanko is tied for fifth place in the AHL with three shorthanded goals on the season.
Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov scored his first goal of the season in the Monarchs 4-3 shootout victory over the Providence
Bruins on Saturday night. The last time the 6-foot-1, 195-pound native of Yaroslavl, Russia, recorded a tally was the game-
winning goal in the last game of the 2004-05 season when the Monarchs topped the Worcester IceCats 2-1 on April 17.
Goaltender Adam Hauser is tied for 10th place among AHL goaltenders with 17 wins and sixth in the league with a 0.915
save-percentage.
The 6-foot-2, 194-pound native of Bovey, Minnesota, leads the league with a shootout record of 6-2.
Goaltender Barry Brust is tied with Hauser for sixth in the AHL with a 0.915 save-percentage.
