Hartford scored on the power play with just 14 seconds left in overtime to take the victory, and finished the night with four power play goals. Five different players lit the lamp for Lowell, who had taken a 5-3 lead with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation.
Where we stand
The Lock Monsters failed to gain ground on the Providence Bruins in the Atlantic Division standings this week, slipping to eight points back for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division. They are 10 points behind the Norfolk Admirals, who are in fourth place in the East Division. Norfolk comes to town on Saturday.
Monsters Memos
- LW Paul Healey recorded his 12th power play goal of the season on Sunday, establishing a new Lock Monsters record. The old record of 11 PPG in a season was set by Jeff Heerema and Markko Tuomainen. Healey already ranks 8th on Lowell's career PPG list.
- Lowell had 31 power plays in three games this week. They scored six times. There were 56 combined power plays in those games
- D Johnny Boychuk has at least one point in five straight games. It's the longest scoring streak of the season for a Monsters defenseman.
- C Keith Aucoin recorded four points on Sunday - the third time this season that he has had a four-point game. Aucoin leads the team with 19 multiple point games, and has six games of three or more points.
- Aucoin cracked the Top 10 in team history for career points last week. His 80 points currently ranks ninth all-time. His current single season totals for points (64) ranks T-5th, and his 43 assists ranks 2nd in team history. Eric Staal holds the records for points (77) and assists (51), setting both in 2004-05.
