Binghamton Senators News Release
LAST WEEK: The Senators picked up four points in four games and currently occupy sixth place in the East Division.
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22ND @ PHILADELPHIA (2-3 OTL): Binghamton twice held a one-goal advantage against Philadelphia, but the Phantoms came back to tie the game and force overtime where defenseman ALEXANDRE PICARD scored his second goal of the game to give Philly the bonus point. Forwards STEVE MARTINS and BRANDON BOCHENSKI each scored power-play goals for the Senators. Goaltender BILLY THOMPSON stopped 36 of 39 shots for the Sens while MARTIN HOULE stopped 27 shots in the win. Both teams scored twice in five power-play opportunities. The game marked Binghamton's last trip to Philadelphia this season.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH vs. TORONTO (2-3 L): Toronto beat the Senators for the first time in four tries this season as KRIS NEWBURY and BATES BATTAGLIA each recorded one goal and one assist in a 3-2 victory at the Arena. DENIS HAMEL (1 goal, 1 assist) and STEVE MARTINS (2 assists) each had two points for Binghamton. KELLY GUARD got the start in net and stopped 27 of 30 shots in the loss. Toronto's JEAN-SEBASTIEN AUBIN stopped 28 of 30 shots in the win. Both teams tallied one power-play goal with Binghamton receiving seven power-plays and Toronto receiving eight.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH vs. HAMILTON (2-3 SOL): The Senators scored two goals for a fourth straight game, losing by a 2-3 margin for a third consecutive contest, on Saturday night against Hamilton. The Bulldogs got two points (1 goal, 1 assist) from right wing ANDREI KOSTITSYN and scored three straight goals in a shootout to prevail with the bonus point at the Arena. Twenty-year-old goalie JAROSLAV HALAK earned the win in his first American Hockey League start by stopping 38 of 40 Binghamton shots, including seven in overtime. BILLY THOMPSON stopped 28 of 30 shots in the loss. Binghamton scored on one of six power plays, with JEFF HEEREMA picking up the lone goal on a blast from just inside the blue line early in the first period. Hamilton was successful on two of eight tries.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH @ BRIDGEPORT (6-5 W): Binghamton's offense broke out in a big way on Sunday in Hamilton as the Senators put four goals on the board in the first period thanks in large part to a hat trick by BRANDON BOCHENSKI. After opening a 2-0 lead on Binghamton's only two power-play chances of the contest, the Senators scored twice in the final minute of first period action including DANNY BOIS' 12th goal of the season and BOCHENSKI'S third goal of the night, with only three seconds remaining to be played in the opening 20 minutes. The Senators went into the third period with a 6-1 lead thanks to goals by CHARLIE STEPHENS and DENIS HAMEL in the second period. But five minutes into the third period, Bridgeport stepped up their offense and began a rally when center JEREMY COLLITON scored his 15th goal of the season. The Sound Tigers cut the Binghamton lead to one when JEFF HAMILTON scored Bridgeport's fourth goal of the period with less than five minutes remaining in the game. But the Senators withstood the rally and snapped a four-game winless streak. BILLY THOMPSON stopped 34 of 39 shots in the win while WADE DUBIELEWICZ stopped 12 of 16 shots before giving way to FREDERIC CLOUTHIER who took the loss while stopping 10 of 12 shots. Binghamton held the Sound Tigers scoreless in six power-play chances.
THIS WEEK: After playing eight games in 12 nights, the Senators will play just twice this week including a game in Syracuse on Saturday and a home contest against Manchester on Sunday.

He has failed to earn a point only once, Feb. 7 at Peoria, in his last 30 games (28 goals, 27 assists). Binghamton is 16-11-2-0-1 (W-L-T-OTL-SOL) against the Crunch. The season series will conclude on March 24th with another game in Syracuse.

SENS SNIPPETS: DENIS HAMEL broke his own franchise record for power-play goals in a season when he scored his 18th man-advantage goal against Toronto on Saturday. Hamel set the original record with 17 goals last season and is currently tied with Norfolk's NATHAN BARRETT for the AHL lead. HAMEL is only three goals shy of becoming the first Senator to record 40 in a season. He set the franchise record last season when he tallied 39....Binghamton finished a stretch of eight games in 12 night with a 6-5 win in Bridgeport on Sunday. They finished the stretch with a 3-3-1-1 record....BRANDON BOCHENSKI recorded his first American Hockey League hat trick on Sunday. He had previously scored two goals nine times in AHL action...Binghamton did not allow a power-play goal in a game for the first time since Jan 27 in Albany when they killed all six of Bridgeport's chances on Sunday.
