Monarchs Game Day Capsule

February 19, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Royals will play the sixth game of their season series, with the Monarchs taking a 3-2-0-0 record into tonight's contest. The division rivals have played each other closely thus far, with the teams separated by one goal (16-15 REA) in their previous five meetings.

WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs enter tonight's game with their largest lead in the East Division of the season, outpacing the Adirondack Thunder by seven points. The Monarchs are tied with the Florida Everblades for the top spot in the conference with 67 points. Reading sits third in the division and seventh in the Eastern Conference with 56 points

ROYAL PAINS - With their come-from-behind win over the Royals on Wednesday night, the Monarchs won their 8th game when trailing entering the third period, the most final frame comebacks in the ECHL. Losing leads might cost Reading at the end of the season when it comes to the playoff structure, as the Royals have now lost 11 games on the season after scoring the first goal of the game.

START THE CARR? - The Monarchs will have the services of Doug Carr tonight, as the goaltender was returned from loan by the Ontario Reign (AHL). The return of Carr is important as fellow goaltender, Colin Stevens, was recalled by the Portland Pirates yesterday.

ROAD WARRIORS - Manchester enters tonight's game tied for the league lead in road victories (17) with the ECHL leading Missouri Mavericks. The eight regulation road losses the Monarchs have suffered ties for the third fewest regulation road losses in the league.

AT YOUR SERVICE - The Monarchs and Royals boast two of the brightest rookies in the ECHL in Matt Leitner and Justin Crandall respectively. Entering action tonight, Leitner ranks third in rookie scoring with 43 points, while Crandall tops all first-year players with 49 points. The two also top the rookie assist leaderboard, with Leitner (33a) chasing Crandall (34a) by just one helper.

KEEP IT TO ONE - The Monarchs have made their money this season in games separated by one goal, posting a 17-3-1-4 record in close contests, while sporting a 5-1 record in games that end in overtime. Manchester also holds an impressive 9-1-0-1 record on the road in one-goal games. Conversely, Reading has struggled in one-goal games, playing to a 6-7-5-3 record in close games, a 1-5 overtime record and are just 3-2-3-1 at home in games separated by one goal.

KEEP THE STREAK - Maxim Kitsyn looks to push his point-streak to 10 games tonight, which would match the third longest streak in the ECHL this season. Kitsyn has scored a point in every game since Jan. 24 (5g, 5a), and has points in 15-of-16 games (10g, 8a).

Michael Boivin looks to extend his point-streak to eight games, as the rookie defenseman has scored points in every game he has played in since Jan. 6. In his current streak, Boivin has scored three goals and seven assists.
