Alaska Aces News Release

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA - Sloppy play by the Alaska Aces gifted the Rapid City Rush a 3-2 win Friday at the Rushmore Civic Center.

Peter Sivak got the Aces off to a good start with his 13th goal of the season at 5:41. He and Stephen Perfetto came up the ice on a 2 on 1, and Perfetto gave him a pass in the right circle that Sivak one-timed into the net past Rush goaltender Danny Battochio to make it 1-0. Collin Valcourt also picked up an assist.

The Rush answered that goal at 7:02. Alaska had a difficult time getting the puck out of their own zone, and Spencer Pommels made them pay with his 12th goal of the season. Assists to Taylor Doherty and Brian O'Rourke, and the period ended 1-1.

No scoring in the second period, though some sloppy play created numerous scoring opportunities for both teams. Troy Redmann was excellent at times in the Alaska net, and Battochio stopped the Aces on a couple breakaways, the Aces' Achilles heel all season long.

In the third, Justin Breton popped in his team-leading 17th goal of the season with helpers from Garrett Haar and Ryan Tesink and Alaska had a 2-1 lead just 35 seconds into the period.

The Aces began unraveling on their own one minute 5 on 3 power play. Unable to get in the Rush zone and set up, Rapid City killed off the two man disadvantage then the 5-4 power play to kick start the comeback. Pommells cashed in a turnover at 12:08 to tie it at 2, then sloppy play in the d-zone cost Alaska the game as Daniel O'Donoghue chipped the puck over Redmann at 13:38 for the game winner.

Battochio finished the game with 22 saves, Redmann had 26.

The win lifts Rapid City over Alaska into 4th place in the West Division.

Same two teams will play again Saturday night and Sunday afternoon in Rapid City.

The Aces return to the Sullivan Arena on Friday, March 9 against Ft. Wayne.
