Mallards Notes

Last Game

Kyle Follmer scored the winning shootout goal after also scoring the only Mallard goal in regulation as the Mallards edged the host Wichita Thunder 2-1 in the shootout Tuesday night.

Back-to-Back

The Mallards have won back-to-back games. A 4-3 overtime win Saturday in Tulsa preceded Tuesday's victory.

Double Dip

Tonight's game is the first of two in two nights between the Mallards and Cyclones at the iWireless Center.

Race

The Mallards are in tenth place in the Western Conference, one point behind the Indy Fuel and Colorado Eagles, who are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Workin' Overtime

The Mallards, who have gone to overtime in each of their last two games, improved to 2-2 in shootouts this season with Tuesday's win.

On the Road

The Mallards went 2-2-0 while playing their last four games on the road. The Mallards also played nine of their last 11 games away from home. They won the final two games of that stretch after going 0-5-2 over their prior seven away tilts.

Welcome Home

The Mallards tonight start a seven game homestand- their longest homestand of the season. They have won back-to-back home games and have taken four of their last five home contests.

Shooting Gallery

The Mallards set a team season high by taking 43 shots Tuesday at Wichita.

Between the Pipes

Brody Hoffman has made a team season high five straight starts in goal for the Mallards and has appeared in 11 of the Mallards' last 13 games. Hoffman made 33 saves over 65 minutes Tuesday night before stopping three of four Wichita shooters in the shootout.

Stop Sign

While Matt Carey did score the first Mallard shootout goal Tuesday, his five game point scoring streak (5-4-9) ended in Wichita. Carey has still produced 13 points (six goals and seven assists) in his last nine games and remains the team leader in goals (14). Carey, who has recorded 26 points in 26 games since arriving from the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild in December, is the only Mallard averaging at least a point per game.

Golden Boys

The Mallards' Matt Neal will, for tonight only, wear a special edition ECHL Fantasy Team jersey presented by the MeiGray Group while Hoffman will wear a specially-designed Golden Goalie jersey. Fan voting elected one player from each ECHL team for the Fantasy Team and one netminder from each club for the Golden Goalie Program. The special edition jerseys go up for bid in an online auction March 3 through March 24.

Head to Head

The Mallards have gone 2-1-1 against the Cyclones this season. They won their only prior home game against Cincinnati 2-1 on November 28. They have gone 2-3-1 all-time against the Cyclones and 1-2-0 on home ice.

Special Teams

The Mallards limited Wichita to just one (unsuccessful) power play Tuesday after giving up goals on all three Tulsa power plays in last Saturday's win over the Oilers. Similarly, the Mallards went 0-for-3 on the power play Tuesday after scoring three-man advantage goals (on six chances) last Saturday in Tulsa. The Mallards rank eighth in the ECHL in penalty killing (85.5 percent) and sixteenth on the power play (17.0).
