Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC - South Carolina's Stephan Vigier scored twice and Brett Cameron notched a trio of points (1g, 2a) as the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (24-20-6), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, suffered a 4-1 loss to the Stingrays (28-17-6) on Friday at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Darian Dziurzynski netted Greenville's only goal with a power-play tally late in the first period, while Vitek Vanecek halted 30 shots in net for South Carolina. The loss dropped the Swamp Rabbits to 5-2-0 against the Stingrays this season and extended their streak of home games without a regulation win to nine (since Dec. 20).

The Stingrays scored all four of their goals in the first 15:39 of the contest, with three of the four coming on special teams. Vigier struck first at the 2:41 mark with a power-play tally to make it 1-0. With Jordan Knackstedt in the box for an unsportsmanlike conduct minor, Vigier capitalized for the 13th time this season after Derek DeBlois fired the puck from the left circle, creating a deflection in front. Cameron then attempted to backhand the redirection into the back of the cage, but it again bounced off the skate of a Greenville defenseman. Third time was the charm for the "Rays, though, as Vigier netted the puck over Allen York's left shoulder.

South Carolina continued its early success with another power-play goal at the 8:33 mark. With Bretton Cameron in the box for boarding, Bobby Shea drilled a shot from the top of the point past York's blocker side. It was Shea's fourth goal of the season, which helped South Carolina start the game 2-for-2 on the power play.

Cameron put another goal on the board at 11:04 of the first period and chased York from the net with his team-leading 17th tally of the season, which came shorthanded. With Joey Leach in the box for cross-checking, Cameron muscled his way to the front of the net but was denied by York's left leg pad. However, the puck was not covered and left York well out of position, leading to a second-chance effort from Cameron on the backhand. Following the goal, York was replaced by Mackenzie Skapski.

The Stingrays extended their lead to 4-0 on Vigier's second goal of the game at 15:39. Drifting down the right side and creating a 2-on-1 rush, David Pacan fired a shot on target that deflected off the right post and caromed to Vigier. Skapski was thrown out of position by his save attempt, which left Vigier alone in front to pocket his 14th goal of the season. It was the only full-strength tally by either team.

Greenville collected its only goal in the final minute of the opening frame when Dziurzynski beat Vanecek on a 5-on-3 power play. With Trevor Gillies and Brenden Ellis both in the box for delay of game, Rob Kwiet faked a slap shot at the right point and slipped a pass to Dziurzynski at the bottom of the circle, where the fourth-year pro opened up and beat Vanecek high glove side for his 14th goal of the season. Kwiet and Rashid earned the assists.

Both teams went the rest of the way (40:32) scoreless. The game also featured two fights including Bretton Cameron vs. Wade Epp at the 8:22 mark of the opening period, and Andrew Dommett vs. Shea at 14:38 of the first. Epp was also given a game misconduct and sidelined for the remainder of the evening.

Greenville finished the game 1-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. York made six saves in 11:04 and suffered the loss, while Skapski stopped 24 shots in relief.

The Swamp Rabbits outshot the Stingrays 34-32.
