Manchester Monarchs News Release
HEAD-TO-HEAD - The Monarchs and Solar Bears will clash in the start of a three-game weekend series, and will meet for the fourth time this season. The Monarchs took all three games from Orlando when the two teams met in Florida in late January, outscoring the Solar Bears, 10-4, in the three games. Joey Diamond and Danick Paquette lead the Monarchs in points against Orlando with three points apiece. The Solar Bears come to Manchester for the first time in franchise history, and bring a 12-7-2-3 road record with them to the Jungle, and a 5-3-1-1 record in their last 10 games.
WHERE WE STAND - The Monarchs (75 points) enter tonight's game eight points clear of the Adirondack Thunder for the top spot in the East Division, but trail the surging Toledo Walleye by two points for the lead in the Eastern Conference. Manchester comes in 21 points ahead of the Solar Bears who find themselves in 12th place in the Eastern Conference.
WHEELING AND DEALING - The Monarchs were shorthanded when they played the Norfolk Admirals last Saturday night, but have received some significant reinforcements since. This week alone, the Monarchs made 14 separate transactions, and when the dust settled, the roster was bolstered by the return of Doug Carr, Matt Harlow, Michael Houser, Derek Arnold, Zac Larraza and Josh Brown. With the moves, Head Coach, Rich Seeley, brought back two goaltenders from the AHL and 61 points (30g, 30a) between the four skaters.
SHOOT AND SCORE - With the return of Larraza and Arnold, the Monarchs received two rookie players who make their shots on goal count. To begin the day, Arnold sits in 3rd place in the ECHL for rookie shooting percentage, scoring on 20.3% of his shots on target. Larraza is no slouch either, scoring on 16.5% of his shots on frame, good for 5th place in rookie shooting percentage.
BACK ON THE BLOCK - The Jungle will welcome Austin Block back to the Granite State this weekend. Block, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, began the season with the Monarchs and played 40 games for Manchester, recording 12 points on three goals and nine assists.
SOLAR CUBS - The Solar Bears travel north with two of the top rookies in the league in Foster and Rodewald. Foster sits in 8th place amongst rookies with is 39 points and tied for second with 19 goals. Rodewald stands in 15th place amongst first-year players with 32 points. No team in the ECHL has two rookies in the top-15 in scoring other than the Solar Bears.
TOUCH THE TWINE - Look for a high scoring weekend, as the Monarchs and Solar Bears are 3rd and 4th respectively in scoring average this season. The Monarchs enter tonight scoring an average of 3.18 goals/game and the Solar Bears are right on their heels, averaging 3.11 goals/game.
CLEAN OUT THE CLOSET - The Monarchs will host their annual Goodwill Clothing Drive tonight. The team asks you to bring lightly used or new clothes to donate to those in need. A Goodwill truck will be on the plaza in front of the Verizon to collect donations prior to the game.
