Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Moline, IL- The Cincinnati Cyclones (30-20-3-3) picked up a 6-2 win over the Quad City Mallards on Friday night. Defenseman Jonathan Diaby, and forwards Seth Ambroz,Colin Mulvey, Joe Wilson, Tommy Mele and Zach Budish scored the goals for the Cyclones, who earn their ninth win in the last 11 games.

The Cyclones drew first blood in this one, as 14:21 into the opening period, forward Jack Downing came over the line on a 2-on-0 rush and fired a shot that was initially saved by Mallards goaltender Brody Hoffman, however Ambroz was following up the play and stuffed in the rebound, putting Cincinnati ahead, 1-0.

That lead became 2-0 a couple of minutes later while on the power play, when forward Branden Gracel took a shot that was kicked out by Hoffman, but Mulvey hammered home the rebound from the high slot to give the Cyclones a two-goal advantage.

Cincinnati was not done, and with roughly two and a half minutes left in the first, Budish skated into the offensive zone and dropped a pass to Diaby who blasted in a one-timer, putting the Cyclones ahead, 3-0, through 20 minutes.

After a back-and-forth second period, the Cyclones continued their forward motion in 2:23 into the third, when a cross-ice feed from Budish found Wilson who snapped it past Hoffman, extending Cincinnati's lead to 4-0.

Midway through the frame, Cincinnati lit the lamp once more when defenseman Steve Weinstein found Mele creeping down the back side, and he tipped the puck into the net on a delayed penalty call to lift the Cyclones to a 5-0 advantage.

The Cyclones tacked on one more just over a minute later, when Downing came down the left wing on a 2-on-1 rush and sent a pass to Budish who fired it into the net to push the Cyclones' lead to 6-0.

The Mallards managed to break up the shutout with just over six minutes left when forward Matt Neal found the back of the net to bring the score to 6-1, and then with 15 seconds remaining forward Matt Carey lit the lamp to cut Quad City's deficit to 6-2. The offense was too little, too late for the Mallards however, and the Cyclones skated to a 6-2 win.

Goaltender Andy Iles was stellar in net for the Cyclones, stopping 32 of the 34 shots he faced to collect the win. Cincinnati wraps up their two-game road trip on Saturday night against the Indy Fuel. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
