Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, today announced goaltender Mackenzie Skapski has been reassigned to Hartford by New York.
Skapski, 21, has played 17 games with the Swamp Rabbits this season, going 4-10-2 with a 3.44 goals-against-average and a .896 save percentage. The second-year pro also made 10 appearances with the Wolf Pack this season and posted a 2-6-0 record with a 3.51 goals-against-average and .888 save percentage.
A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Skapski began his professional career in the Upstate last season and became Greenville's sixth former player to reach the NHL when he debuted for the Rangers on February 20, 2015. Overall, Skapski made two appearances for New York last season and went 2-0-0 with a remarkable 0.50 goals-against average and .978 save percentage. On March 14, 2015, he earned a 20-save shutout against the Buffalo Sabres and helped New York to a 2-0 victory on the road.
In addition, Skapski made one appearance with Greenville during his rookie campaign and halted 29 shots in a 3-0 setback at Orlando on October 19, 2014. He was recalled to Hartford three days later and spent 28 contests with the Wolf Pack in 2014-15. Skapski went 15-8-3 with a 2.40 goals-against average, .914 save percentage and three shutouts during that span.
Prior to turning pro, the 6'3, 192-pound netminder played four seasons of major junior in the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2010-14. He went 74-54-5 with a 2.81 goals-against average, .909 save percentage and eight shutouts in 128 career games with the Kootenay Ice.
Skapski was selected in the sixth round (#170 overall) by the Rangers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He joined goaltenders Connor Knapp, Nathan Lieuwen and Cam Talbot, as well as defensemen Marc-Andre Bourdon and Julien Brouillette, on the list of Greenville graduates who have progressed to the NHL.
