ONE POINT AWAY
The Monarchs can clinch a playoff spot with just one point, meaning a win, shootout or overtime loss, or a Wheeling or Worcester loss would secure the Monarchs a playoff position tonight. The Monarchs (85) are four points ahead of Adirondack (81) for first place, with the Reading Royals (76), Wheeling Nailers (74) and Worcester Railers (70) battling for the third and fourth spots in the playoffs.
WATCH OUT FOR WATSON
Spencer Watson has been on fire lately, scoring points in seven straight games, for a total of nine points during that stretch. Watson has also scored a goal in five straight games, including two goals last night against the Thunder. His last seven games have accounted for 30% of the 23 goals he has this season.
DOESN'T MATTER WHO IS IN NET
During the Monarchs seven-game winning streak, Evan Cowley and Charles Williams have rotated victories for Manchester. Cowley now has four wins during the streak, allowing only six goals in those four games, while posting a .953 save percentage. Williams has claimed three victories in the last seven games, while stopping 81 of 90 shots for a .900 save percentage.
HE SHOOTS, HE SCORES
Manchester's Matt Schmalz ranks first among active rookies in shooting percentage, scoring on 22 of 103 shots this season, good for 21.4%. Schmalz has scored a season-high six goals in the month of March and has posted a +5 rating this month, bringing him to +15 on the season.
