Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH- The Cincinnati Cyclones (36-27-3-0) picked up a 3-2 overtime victory over the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night, snapping their five-game losing streak. Defenseman Chris Leone and forward Vas Glotov scored the goals in regulation, while forward Brandon McNally netted the game-winning goal in overtime.
Cincinnati struck first and took a 1-0 lead after the first when forward Shawn O'Donnell sent a pass to Leone on the left side following a faceoff win, and he blasted in his fifth goal of the season to put the 'Clones ahead.
Wheeling wasted little time tying the game in the second, as just 28 seconds in forward Cam Brown lit the lamp on the power play to pull the Nailers even, 1-1.
The teams took the 1-1 tie into the locker room after the second, and in the third Wheeling took the lead with a little over six minutes to play when forward Chris Francis found the back of the net to put the Naliers ahead, 2-1. Cincinnati continued to battle, and at the 15:49 mark of the frame tied the game, 3-3, when Glotov scored his first pro goal out in front, following a point shot from Leone.
The game remained tied, 3-3, through the remainder of regulation, and in overtime Cincinnati only needed 2:02 to snap their five-game skid, as defenseman Mike Barrett sent a pass from the left circle across to McNally on a 2-on1, and he fired in the game-winner to lift the Cyclones to a 3-2 overtime win.
The Cyclones were outshot, 36-26 on the evening, with goaltender Jason Kasdorf steering aside 34 in the win. Cincinnati returns to Wheeling on Tuesday night, in the make-up game from February 17. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05pm ET.
