Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
RABBIT TAILS
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (22-35-7-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, hit the ice at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena again tonight at 7 p.m. as they battle the Jacksonville Icemen (25-33-4-3). The Swamp Rabbits topped the Icemen last night 3-2 and have earned points in four of the last seven games. Jacksonville had previously won three consecutive games but are ten points out of playoff contention in the South Division with seven games remaining in the regular season.
OPEN THE DOR-OWICZ
Forward Spencer Dorowicz made his professional debut last night against the Icemen and also notched his first pro goal in the game. The rookie's opening tally came immediately following a successful penalty kill for the club. Dorowicz joined the club on Thursday after completing his collegiate career at Robert Morris University, notching 59 points (23G, 36A). This season, the Olds, Alberta native tallied a career best eight goals.
JUST THE 'MAY' IT IS
Another rookie forward notched a goal in his debut last night. Johno May connected on a goal in the third period, netting the eventual game-winning goal. The 6-foot-5 forward is the first player in franchise history to score a game-winning goal in his pro hockey debut. May scored 22 goals in four collegiate seasons and had not earned a game winning tally in 143 NCAA games. The Mahtomedi, Minnesota native ended his collegiate career with 60 points for the Yellow Jackets.
THE JASPER-AT-ARMS
Rookie forward Evan Jasper recorded his team-leading 14th multi-point effort last night. The winger notched a goal and added an assist and leads Greenville's scoring charge with 46 points (19G, 27A) this season. The Sacred Heart University alum has recorded the eighth most points among rookies this year. The 5-foot-10 winger has earned eight points (3G, 5A) in the last seven games. The Swamp Rabbits are 8-3-3-0 this season when Jasper has posted a multi-point effort.
JT GETS TWO
Forward JT Henke earned his first two assists last night, collecting his first multi-point outing in the effort as well. Henke has produced five points (3G, 2A) in his last six games. The center from Trenton, Michigan has produced the most offense of any new Greenville skater this month after making his pro debut on Mar. 2. Henke earned 79 points (29G, 50A) at Lake Superior State University in the last three years.
THAT'S A 'LOTZ' OF GAMES
Goaltender Austin Lotz has seen plenty of work this season, playing 22 of the last 27 games for Jacksonville. The netminder has started 12 straight games and earned a 7-5-0-0 record in that stretch. The second-year pro from Winnipeg, Manitoba has posted an 18-14-1-1 record this year with two shutouts, 2.93 goals against average, and .895 save percentage.
CARROT BITES
This season, 31 different players have scored at least one goal for the Swamp Rabbits, the most in three years.
Forward Matt Johnson will play the 100th professional game of his career tonight.
Goaltender Ty Rimmer earned his 13th win of the season last night and is two wins away from ranking fifth in team history.
Elgin Pearce leads the Icemen this season with 49 points (22G, 27A) in 60 games.
Greenville and Jacksonville will meet for the final time tonight. Jacksonville leads the season series with a 5-4-0-0 record.
