Mavs Minutes

Pauly's Streak

Shawn Pauly extended his goal-scoring streak to three games last night, scoring four goals over that span. The Bellingham, Washington native leads the Mavericks with 22 goals on the year in what has been a breakout campaign for the forward. Pauly is also tied for the team lead with four game-winners this season.

Coop Hits 40

A scoring correction gave Mark Cooper his 40th point of the season after adding an assist to his record from the Mavericks' game at Tulsa last Friday. Cooper leads the Mavs in scoring and is just two points back from his season total a year ago with Rapid City in his first pro season.

Beating Brodeur

Jeremy Brodeur has presented problems for the Mavericks this season, owning a .926 Save Percentage against Kansas City in now six games. Brodeur holds a record of 3-3 against the Mavericks on the year with a 2.70 Goals Against Average as he has been a tough competitor between the pipes. The Mavericks peppered him with 36 shots in last night's game but pushed only two to the back of the net in a 3-2 loss.

Playoff Implications

Tonight's game carries heavy playoff implications for the Mavericks, who are now tied with Indy for fifth in the Central Division and trail fourth-place Kalamazoo by two points. The Mavericks enter tonight's action with one more game played than the Wings, who are idle, and can ill afford to hand Kalamazoo two games in hand with a two-point edge. Both Kalamazoo and Indy own the tie break over the Mavericks by virtue of more regulation and overtime wins on the season, with three of KC's 32 victories coming in a shootout.

Man Down

The Mavericks played last night with only five defensemen and will likely have to do the same tonight as KC has only five healthy blue-liners on its roster. Kayle Doetzel was called up to AHL affiliate Stockton Friday evening and Troy Donnay remains out nursing an injury. The Mavericks rolled out 11 forwards in last night's game with Danny Smith re-entering the lineup for the first time since March 16's game at Tulsa.
