Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (23-35-7-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, were able to hold onto a 3-2 victory over the Jacksonville Icemen (25-34-4-3) tonight at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. The team led 2-0 early but were matched by the Icemen in the second period. A third period tally by JT Henke helped solidify the victory along with 35 saves by goaltender Ty Rimmer.

A quick two goal first period for the Swamp Rabbits caught Jacksonville on their heels. Defensemen Sean Flanagan was the first to beat goaltender Austin Lotz. The defenseman skated all the way across the zone and cut just below the right circle. The rookie picked the top right corner with a low angle shot that opened the scoring. The third tally of the season for the defenseman came less than four minutes into the game.

Three minutes later, Evan Jasper extended the lead. Rookie Johno May earned his second assist of the game after breaking down the ice with his linemate. May tossed it over to Jasper on the right side. The team's leading scorer corralled the puck on the pass and outlasted Lotz before slipping it through his five-hole. Greenville's 2-0 advantage almost became three with a shot that rang the post in the period.

Jacksonville capitalized after the chance, turning a shorthanded rush into a goal. Tanner Eberle broke down the left wing and fired a goal over the shoulder of Rimmer to cut the lead in half at the end of the first period. Less than two minutes into the second period the Icemen somehow notched another goal. Elgin Pearce was able to rattle a puck into the net off the end boards.

The game became physical and the Swamp Rabbits needed to battle back to regain the lead in the third period. Jasper broke down the ice with defenseman Sergey Zborovskiy coming down the left wing toward the net. Henke trailed on the play and rifled a shot into the net for his fourth goal of the season. The center launched it from the high slot in just his 10th pro game.

Rimmer made a spectacular 35 stops in the game to earn his 14th victory of the season. His counterpart Lotz ended the night with 18 saves but took a loss for the second straight night.

Greenville has only two home games remaining this season as the club hits the road for three contests in Florida. The road trip begins with a Wednesday night matchup against the Everblades.
