Manchester Monarchs News Release
WORCESTER, MA - After winning each of their first six games of the season against Worcester, the Monarchs have lost two straight to the Sharks - the latest a 5-4 defeat in a shootout at the DCU Center on Friday night.
AHL All-Star selection Colin Miller recorded a team-high three points (goal, 2 assists) for his second three-point game in his last three contests.
The Monarchs (25-9-3-2), who held a 3-2 lead after two periods, entered tonight 20-0-0-0 when leading at the start of the third. Manchester also lost to Worcester (18-14-3-2) by a 3-1 score on Tuesday night.
Adam Hughesman put the Monarchs on the board at 5:03 in the first period. It was the first career AHL goal for Hughesman, who has 46 career goals in parts of three seasons in the ECHL.
The Monarchs scored again just over two minutes later when Andrew Crescenzi collected his first goal of the season at 7:26 in the first.
Worcester tied the score with goals from Jeremy Langlois and Chris Tierney at 11:19 and 15:03 in the second period, respectively.
Colin Miller gave the Monarchs the lead again when he scored on a slap shot from the point at 19:05 in the second. It was his 10th goal of the season.
Travis Oleksuk scored the game-tying goal 5:58 into the third period when he knocked in a loose puck in front of J.F. Berube.
Worcester netted the go-ahead goal when Taylor Fedun scored from the point at 12:51 in the third. The goal came on the power play after Josh Gratton was whistled for goalie interference.
Michael Mersch's eighth goal of the season tied the score at 17:42 in the third. Mersch crashed the net from the left wing and beat Troy Grosenick with a backhanded shot.
After a scoreless overtime period, Bryan Lerg scored the lone goal in the shootout. Miller, Jordan Weal and Sean Backman were all stopped for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday when they host Providence on LA Kings Night. Alec Martinez "bobble-hands" will be given out to the first 2,500 fans in attendance.
