Cleveland Monsters News Release

Reto Berra became the 11th goalie in American Hockey League history to score a goal when he converted a full-ice shot into an empty net at 18:34 of the third period, giving the Lake Erie Monsters a 4-1 lead and putting an exclamation point on a 5-1 win for the Monsters (16-15-2-3) Friday night over the Chicago Wolves (19-15-4-0) at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Stefan Elliott also scored twice, while Paul Carey and Troy Bourke scored once each. The Monsters visit Iowa Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

Stefan Elliott opened the scoring with a power play goal- his 10th goal of the season- at 7:48 of the first period. Joey Hishon's shot from the right circle was stopped by Wolves goalie Matt Climie, but Elliott found the rebound in the right circle, and snapped a shot top-shelf for his first goal of the game. Ben Street also assisted on the goal for the Monsters, as he played his first game for the Monsters since November 15, 2014.

Elliott scored on a wrist shot from the high slot to give the Monsters a 2-0 lead with his 11th goal of the season at 8:50 of the opening frame. Troy Bourke and Max Noreau assisted on Elliott's second goal of the game, and his second goal in 49 seconds. The Monsters stretched their first period lead to 3-0 when Paul Carey deflected a Karl Stollery point shot past Climie at 15:37 of the first period; Street collected his second assist of the game on the play.

Chicago cut the Monsters lead to 3-1 at 4:36 of the second period after Magnus Paajarvi found Shane Harper cutting to the net, and Harper slipped a puck along the ice past an outstretched Berra.

In the third period, there was no scoring until Berra took control of a puck and lofted a shot down the ice that slid into the empty Chicago net, making Berra the 11th goalie in AHL history to score. Troy Bourke's power play goal gave the Monsters a 5-1 lead with 14 seconds to go; Bourke's rebound goal was his fifth of the season, and was assisted by Gabe Beaupre.

The Monsters visit the Iowa Wild tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The game airs live on AM 1420 "˜The Answer'.
